All welcome to join in

First race: 4.15 - please post selections before 4.00

Rules:

1. Make a selection in each race

2. Count your selections and make sure you haven't missed any races out

3. Please name the selections, 'FAV' or race card numbers are not permitted

4. Please have your picks in 15 mins before the first race. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED

5. Abandoned meetings: Only meetings where at least 4 races have been run will count towards overall scoring. In the event of incomplete meetings naps will not count double and half points will apply to the overall scores.

6. Naps & NRs

NRs can only be changed up to 15 minutes before the first race - otherwise your selection will be switched to the favourite (lowest card number if joint or co-favs).

If your Nap is a NR, it will be switched to your last-named selection that runs unless changed at least 15 minutes before the first race.

If more than one nap is nominated, the first one will stand, and likewise if more than one selection is given for the same race, the first one will stand.

Any confusion regarding what the nap is (eg none given), then the nap will go on to the last-named selection on the card that runs, unless clarified at least 15 minutes before the first race is off.

7. SCORERS DECISION IS FINAL

Problems Posting on the Forum
If there are patently problems accessing the forum for many, the comp on such days will be voided.

Thank you

One selection per race
One nap per meeting, double points awarded

Winner selected scores 7 points
Second selected scores 3 points
Third selected scores 1 point

If SP is greater than 6/1 points are doubled
If SP is greater than 12/1 points are trebled
If SP is greater than 20/1 points are quadrupled
If SP is greater than 28-1 points are quintupled.
If SP IS EVENS OR SHORTER POINTS ARE HALVED (i.e a 4/7 winner scores 3.5, a napped 10/11 second scores 3)

The overall leaderboard is posted on the Your Comps Forum

There will usually be one meeting a day to select at including Sundays, except for AW Finals day when there are two meetings to end the season with.

I'll have a go please George but can't guarantee to go the distance as it's a lot of tips to sort out each day and I would normally only look at the best 2 or 3 handicap races per meeting.

Unlucky Tommy on missing out on the extra points there, but very well done on finding an 8-1 winning nap for the prem.

madhatter, some people do find it a bit too much in terms of time for form study in order to do it justice, so no worries if you find it's not for you, but obviously I hope you are able to continue. To be honest, I have a bit of a system that I use which means I don't have to spend too much time looking at races that I don't have much interest in.

It was a a couple of observations on the structure if the compy.

Rather than every race selections from your selected meeting have you ever considered maybe 3 picks.
Nap - Nb - Treble......3pts, 2pts, 1pt win respectively at SP?
Then no-one has to look at every race.
A maiden stakes or really poor CL6 handicap doesn't have to be considered, or indeed competitive handicaps if that's not your cup of tea.
I appreciate this competition has worked as it is for many years but 11 current entries doesn't seem overly exciting to me (and maybe there are some others that would think about partaking if the selection process was a bit more flexible).

Anyway...think I may well be the only player to fail to register a point tonight.!!!GrinGrinGrin

I think you're looking okay to win some overall points, madhatter.

Thanks for your thoughts on the structure, and what you suggest is similar to what's used for the big meeting comp, where you have 6pts to stake with a maximum of two points (win only) on any one race, and that does make some appeal for this as it would make it easier to settle for the settler!

Obviously just 11 taking part on the first day isn't great considering the numbers tend to dwindle as the season goes on.

I think we have to consider changing the format. See what people think, and as there is a week's break at the end of this month, the comp could start again in December under the new format.

Sadly, some of the comps old stalwarts are no longer with us, which partly explains why the numbers have fallen away.

Just to add, for the past couple of seasons or so, I ran the Dundalk Friday nights comp under the 6 points format and that was only getting 10 or so taking part. It's not just this comp, even the naps comp has lost participants when you look at division three now, and how would the naps comp look overall if it wasn't for individuals posting under multiple usernames?

Well done to bluenose7 whose three winners included Arazzo 18-1.

TommyWestofLanark finishes an unlucky runner-up having also selected Arazzo and would have napped his other winner Up The Jazz 8-1, had Tommy thought on about a nap being required.

Sing when ur winning, who napped Beauzon 100-30 and also selected Up The Jazz, completes the top 3.

Sadly very true George...remembering back to around 2005 or so we had 5 Naps divisions of 30 people and I dont think anyone tended to post under more than one name.

I can think of three who I would have expected to take part and maybe they've just missed the start for whatever reason.

I suppose the concern is that if I change the format and it makes no difference to the numbers, basing that on the Dundalk comp which was just one meeting a week and with the six points structure, and I have to consider that some of the regulars have returned and they're evidently happy to continue with the scoring how it's always been.

So I think now it's started I'll just leave it as it is but obviously if we're struggling to get ten taking part then it's highly likely to be the final one in its current format.
