onehundredandeighty managed to avoid any dead-heats today and went into pole position with an excellent 16/1 winning nap,

closely followed by pedro39 who moved on to the podium with a 12/1 success,

Sing when ur winning, ad hoc shouldve won a national and ged all improved their standings with 11/2, 7/2 and 9/4 winners respectively while

man of many moods and scissors weighed-in with odds-on shots.

Value Seeker, carrot69 and Billposter just hit the post with decent-priced efforts.

Big ups to today's winners and Good Luck to those who have a go tomorrow.

KC.re dead heat-As much for my own curiosity, should it have been £5 as opposed to £4-50?

I see what you mean George but this is something which the software works out automatically.
I'll pass your enquiry over to "Dr" Reged.
Report Reged January 18, 2015 2:48 PM GMT
The software, which predates me I have to say, is bang on.

Under standard bookie (and BF) rules, the return is calculated thus:

First the stake is divided by the number of dead-heaters, so in this case: 1/2 = 0.5

The return is then calculated on that stake: 0.5*10 = 5

But then the other part of the stake is returned to the layer, so 5 - 0.5 = 4.5

Simples!
Report Reged January 18, 2015 2:51 PM GMT
That's not entirely clear: after the stake is divided by the number of DH's, the bet is calculated on the revised stake, but the original stake minus the revised stake is returned to the layer. I must say I think it's mightily unfair on the punter - if a shortie wins a dead heat you almost certainly end up losing - but that's 'the law'!

Report Gorgeous George. January 18, 2015 3:27 PM GMT
Thanks for time and explanation; I thought you simply had half your stake at full odds for a dead heat.

Cheers.
Report Gorgeous George. January 18, 2015 3:47 PM GMT
Reged-Just followed your link and copied this.

'For example, if you have £10 win bet at 10/1 on a horse and it dead-heats for first place with another horse, then your betting stake is reduced to £5. You are returned £55 (ie: £5 win at 10/1 = £50 + £5 stake returned = £55 returns to you).'

As it happens, the example of 10-1 is the same price as our particular dead heat. So, if we divide the above example by 10, to give a £1 stake, the return would be £5-50, then obviously the 50p stake would be deducted.
I feel that Betfair rules must differ from High Street rules, when it comes to a dead heat.

Cheers.
Report Reged January 18, 2015 3:57 PM GMT
No, I saw that too George but it is a slight misreading because they don't explain it perfectly. Yes, you get £55 back in that example, but that is only after you first having paid your £10 stake in (what you are getting back is gross, including half stake). So your NET return is £45. BF rules are he same as the rest.
Report Reged January 18, 2015 3:58 PM GMT
... and the naps comp is not based on BF prices or rules
Report Shanelee1966 January 18, 2015 4:09 PM GMT
Correct with d/h, always thought it unfair on the punter.

From memory 3/1 that d/h`s = evens winner.

Anyway, is every one ok?
Report Gorgeous George. January 18, 2015 4:38 PM GMT
I understand now that you have explained the rules are different to those of High Street. Cheers.
Report Reged January 18, 2015 4:42 PM GMT
not wot I said George - they are exactly the same as the high street, and betfair
Report Gorgeous George. January 18, 2015 5:04 PM GMT
If I had £1 on 10-1 dead heat, High Street,I would have £5-50 return. My stake would have been halved-take away the stake and you are left with £5?
Report Reged January 18, 2015 5:26 PM GMT
No george, only in dreamland would that happen. On the High Street as anywhere else you'd hand over your £1 stake. That  would be halved and the bookie would pocket the other half. You'd then get your 10/1 on 50p, £5, plus your 50p half stake back. But that means that your £5 win on the bet is reduced by the half stake you gave to the bookie - so £4.50. ie you hand £1 in and get £5.50 back.
Report Gorgeous George. January 18, 2015 6:06 PM GMT
Alright reged, I see what you are saying; I'll go back to dreamland.
