Is 1 pt EW allowed cuz Sir Tom has been known to go that route!

Good idea for a comp, btw, Steamship.
On my NH notebook thread I went with Vaniteux, back in November, but subsequent events would suggest I got that one badly wrong! ![]() It will be interesting to see what Sir Tom comes up with cuz outside the top 4 it's hard to see much making any appeal. I see Clever Cookie is quoted in the AP lists, and given the improvement he showed on the Flat, would be an intriguing runner. However, I seem to recall a quote from Peter Niven saying CC would be kept for the Flat ![]() Now I wouldn't dare second guess Sir Tom, but looking at what he has to go at, Hurricane Fly at a double figure price could be the way to go and his selection? As for my own pick in this competition, looking at the 'rags', I'm going to go for 1pt EW on Irving at 33-1 generally. The tentative angle being he could be much happier bunny on a decent surface and hit the frame at least, although whether he'll be aimed at this race after his shocker at this Kempton... |

Just to say, they don't like you naming other bookies' odds, so I would suggest just the odds are stated!
|
|
By:
Great idea Steamship. At the moment 3 bookies are going non-runner no bet are we using that concession or just calling all non-runners losers. Think e/w should be allowed as he has gone down that route before.

Arctic Fire 1pt e/w 33/1 generally
Impossible to see anything outside the top 3 winning but they are all priced accordingly. So it has to be something to run into the frame at big odds and Arctic Fire fits the bill. Best form is in bigger fields on decent ground and likely to get that at the festival. Has the all important Festival form from last year as well and can see him running on into 3rd at the close. Last weeks run was encouraging in conditions that wouldn't have played to his strengths. |

ok guys open to all ideas so 1pt e/w is fine.
Drop the naming of the bookies and just quote the best price. Also like the write up China castle. Yes you can use nr no bet just add it to the selection I will check all selections on Monday night. Tuesday I will put up next weeks race. |

Good idea steamship.

China "impossible to see outside the top 3 but they are all priced accordingly" I couldn't agree more.
|
|
By:
Very tricky race to find a pricewise selection from given how uncompetitive it looks. The Gold Cup and Champion Chase look far better ante post races.
|

Hurricane Fly (14/1) really does seem the obvious pw selection in this race for me. The one horse with proven quality, at a double figure price. Yes, a really sound e/w selection, all things permitting
|
|
By:
I doubt that we will get more than 8 horses for the race, I believe that Hurricane Fly does not show his best at Cheltenham and the ones at bigger prices are not good enough. Rock on Ruby would interest me but will probably go for World Hurdle.
The bet for me has to be Jezki @6-1 He has been and done it . The 2 ahead of him in the betting are probably better horses but do they deserve to be so much shorter at this stage? |
|
By:
The aim is to show a profit over the festival, so I`d have to go for
Hurricane Fly e/w @14/1 |
|
By:
Ok lets close the selections
China Castle has Arctic Fire 1pt E/W 33-1 GEORGE B has Irving 1pt E/W 33-1 Shanelee has Hurricane Fly 1pt E/W 14-1 Steamship has Jezki 1pt Win 6-1 Stephaniebet has Hurricane Fly 1pt E/W 14-1 Thanks to you for taking part. I will put up the next one tomorrow. |

Judging by a thread that's up on the HR Forum, it appears Sir Tom has gone with Artic Fire.
china knew, great minds... |
|
By:
Just looked and that is the pick George
![]() |
|
By:
We know who you are now china
![]() |
|
By:
The Hurricane has beaten Jezki 4 times and on every occasion the going has been soft or soft / heavy. (only 1/2 length last time). On the 2 races Jezki has beat the Hurricane the going had the word GOOD in the description.
So I would hold on and see what the going is going to be before you part with any money. |
|
By:
china, are you going to c + p your expert analysis to that thread on the HR forum?
I'd be interested to read the OP's response?! ![]() |

Steamship, my guess Irving was best priced 50-1 on the list of odds that Segal had to choose from, quoted in today's paper.
Btw, Nicholls reports that Irving was lame after the Christmas Hurdle with an abscess in his foot but is back cantering now. The aim next is the Kingwell Hurdle. |
|
By:
Hang on, scratch that, amazing how with one exception, the 33s general for Arctic Fire is nowhere to be seen on that list. Funny how they've been able to adjust their prices before Segal's selection was known....
|
|
By:
To be honest George don't think Tom wanted to put up a selection but has to because the paper demands it. The other Championship races are far better ante-post races as they are wide open at the moment.
I took all the 33's George ![]() |
|
By:
And your army of followers too!
|
|
By:
I will change it to 50s then George.
China congratulations on 70pts profit on naps challenge as well as choosing the right horse before Tom did. Are you going to reveal any of your methods? |
|
By:
33s was the correct price at the time of posting, Steamship. It would appear, given what was available on Sunday for Arctic Fire, that the prices that appeared in the paper had already been influenced by Segal's selection.
|
|
By:
Doubt there will be much e/w betting come the day , Faugheen , Jezki & The New One will scare the field away & I think they will decide that The Fly won his races there despite the course ,and will not participate this time.

sixtwosix, did you see the draw for the knockout comp?
