I hope the batteries are re-charged after the short break, and we can build on the form we were showing in the last few weeks of the 2012 campaign.
Please sign in to indicate that you are aware that the season starts in a weeks time and that you are happy to remain in the team.

Recap of revised rules if you have not followed Undecided's threads in the last few weeks:
undecided 18 Jan 13 16:10 "Since my previous thread outlining changes to this year's comp, I have taken on-board comments and had a rethink, this is what I've come up with:
The main competition will consist of 20 weekly rounds, moving back from last year's fortnightly format. It will be split into two sessions with a 3 week KO Comp in between. We'll start 3 Feb and I think 20 + 3 takes us through to the Newmarket July meeting, a bit longer than usual, but that will be it for the year, no autumn session.
V well done guys, some nice tipping at Cheltenham. Thanks dukeofpuke a nice winner for me N/R, was at work yesterday so very pleased of your intervention.

Apologies for the price of my selection backing each way at 7/4 ! - came 3rd
It was 4/1 on Monday night - still I suppose its better than a loser -albeit only just better, and you never know those extra coppers may make a difference on Saturday night.
Best of luck this week.

I have posted a selection, but won't be around tomorrow, therefore in the unlikely event of it being a non-runner if anyone is around please replace it.
thanks

at least we didnt finish last the week just gone.perhaps we may need to think of a strategy with each way horses, and also all of us pick in different races as its counter productive if 2 or 3 of us pick 10pts win in same race etc just my thoughts

Next week we are taking a mid-term break from the main competition, instead teams will compete for the 2013 Team Tipster Cup. The rules are similar to the usual but one important change is no duplicate selections within each match.
Cup Rules
Draw will be based on league positions at end of week 10 such that 1st will play 8th, 2nd will play 7th, 3rd will play 6th and 4th v 5th Quarter Finals will take place in week 1 Semi Finals will take place in week 2 (Four losing teams get a couple of weeks off) Final and 3rd Place Play-off will take place in week 3 Each week will begin on a Sunday and finish on a Saturday. Each team will have 8 selections per week, one from each player, duplicate selections are NOT allowed within each match. 10pts win or 5pts EW on British, Irish, French (as long as an industry SP is returned) or UAE racing, selected any day, Sunday through Saturday, the week ends on the last Saturday race. Settled at SP, EW terms as industry standard. Selections must be posted at least one hour before race time. On Saturdays there will be a 4pm cut-off for selections, that is you may pick in any race after that but it has to be posted by 4pm (1hr rule still applies). Once you have posted a selection you are not allowed to change it or the stake, unless it becomes a non-runner or is a duplicate. Non Runners - that team member may choose again for that week.
Team captains will be responsible for managing any wildcards required, there are no restrictions on their use, but please try and share them around so that no one individual is always claiming them. Please also name who the wildcard is for when posting.
Teams will start the week from a baseline of 0pts. This equates to 8 losing selections and/or non-selections. Subsequent scores will be added to this baseline plus return of the winning part of the stake (10pts for win and EW winner, 5pts for EW placed). All scores count. The team scoring most points wins In the event of a tie, the best single near-miss selection from each team will be assessed as follows: Selections will be "bumped up" a place, so if a team had a win pick finish 2nd, it will become a winner and the extra points that would have been gained from that will come into play EW 2nds, will become winners and only the extra win points will count, EW selections just outside the places will count for the place points If this is still inconclusive I'll make a judgement call on best non-scoring performance from each team.

Hopefully KBGJ will post one way or another - I am not aware of his circumstances is he known/in touch whether any other team member?

yes its awkward not knowing if he will post.it would be best if we had a cut off time lets say 2.00 that will still give us a good choice of races from 3.00 onwards to pick from.mine was unlucky in running u/r at the last when in the lead

Thanks for looking after things, well done on your winner Andrew, but its not been a good week. I am having a bad week in all competitions, so this was no different.
Going forward I suggest that if anyone hasn't picked by 2.00 we play a wild card, unless the person has posted to state that they are around and will be making their pick later.
This will give more flexibility on the races to chose from with the 1 hour rule restricting the choice even more in the winter months. Unless anyone has any strong objections this will be our policy going forward.

Well done Andrew, nice winner. Ps, I know we said we were going to try and avoid each others picks to give us a better chance, but I've went with a one in the 2.40 Newbury, where dogdayafternoon has found one. Did not see this until I'd put mine up.... well at least we have 2 bites of the cherry!!!

Well done everyone, with a special mention to Andrew in Sweden's winner. Also thanks to Duke for keeping an eye on the shop for any non runners/non posters.
It looks like we are going to be a man down does anyone know of anybody who would join us otherwise any thoughts about playing the wild card - say some form of rota that way the card can be played earlier in the week/on the day rather than a last minute thing.

Thanks hoof and well done to yourself and duke with your points contributions. We were a close finishing 2nd and 3rd place in the overall table is achievable. As far as KGBJ's replacement goes, I guess it could be 'advertised' and if there's no response by Friday, maybe you could draw a wildcard rota up hoof.

Will just give it a few more days to see if anyone else spots the post.
The rota would probably be a good idea- we did this a few years ago and it worked well, as it also covered for known holiday absences etc.

As you are aware KBGJ has not shown of late, as such I think that its fair to say that he has withdrawn from the competition and we will need to play a wild card to cover his selection.
Rather than leave it to the last minute and also being faced by who should be posting, it will be best if we have a rota, that way:Everyone knows who will be playing the wild, everyone will get the chance to make another pick, and it will also allow the wild card to used earlier in the week.
I am putting the rota in not particular order apart from the fact that Andrew and Duke were on the thread late this week so should be aware of the plans. Could everyone acknowledge that they have seen this proposal - hopefully everyone is comfortable with this

Thanks Andrew - happy to leave things as they are, we are all going to get a chance to pick in the coming months- initially I just want to allow time for everyone to see the post, and the fact that you have already posted means we are covered for this week and you can pick earlier if need be.
May have to fine tune the dates - there is generally a summer break in the competition, but lets cross that bridge later
Anyway best of luck this week.

Yes that's fine duke, to be honest I would be in favour of extending this to all picks not just wild cards - if anyone is intending posting late just drop a note on here to say so as 3.00 only leaves a hours window to the 4.00 deadline, and especially in the winter months (if there's no floodlit a/w racing)there will be very little races to chose from.
Best of luck this week and I echo Andrews comments re last weeks point scorers - I thought I had posted something to this effect but its not here so I am either going senile or the forum was acting up - I would be laying around evens each of two.

I'm back, batteries recharged and hopefully pick a winner or two, as I am on a bad roll at the moment, but no doubt we've all been there.

Well done to Chypmunk, ferret and hoof for the points. My ew outsider is probably still in the final furlong, I should have used my daily naps selection, it would have added another 23.5 points, but at least we finished ahead of Dunters. Onwards and upwards etc. Good luck to all this week.

A case of what might have been yesterday, with only around £20 separating 2nd and 6th place, anyway onwards and upwards.
The wild card rota seems to be working, and its Mr Ferret's turn this week. Hopefully all of the team will have seen this thread and in particular the wild card plans and are aware of the "batting order".

Hi guys, I've popped in here to see who the wildcard may be for, that mr d ferret has posted, and see Andrew has posted a selection here but not the selection thread.
Firstly the wildcard - if it's a just-in-case post then please be aware that 1hr before it's race time I will use it for someone regardless of whether your full team subsequently turn up.
Secondly I'll take Andrew's post above as intended selection and copy it over.

Hoof, well done on the points, our only scorer this week.
My own selection Ektihaam may have been unlucky, he was clear when he unshipped Hannigan (although there was still a fair way to go) considering he beat the ill fated winner by 6L last time out. Good luck this week guys.

Well done to dogdayafternoon for the winning points yesterday. I went for an outsider in the John Smiths (still running). I was going to select my daily naps winner (6/4) but I was hoping to go out on a high (fat chance). We had a go and failed miserably, but there's always next time
