I thank you for your continued support of this comp and invite you all back for next year.
Please let me know if you wish to bow out, otherwise I'll assume you are game for more.

I'm looking to change the format slightly in that we'll have three separate competitions in the year instead of one split into two sessions.
I'd say we'll stick with the fortnightly rounds format, but each of the 3 parts of the comp will consist of 6 rounds, that's 12 weeks each, a Winter, Spring and Autumn section.
One starting mid/late January, the second following straight on, and then after the Summer break, the final part, followed by a grand final of two weeks duration in December.
To qualify for the grand final a team must win one of the three season's comps. There will be three teams in this final, but if one team wins more than one section then the other team that qualifies will be the overall best performer for the year in terms of points (or positions?) scored totaled from the 3 separate comps.

My reasons for the above change is to try and keep more teams involved and chasing a target more of the time, this year there were only 4 teams in with a realistic chance of the championship as we returned from the summer break.
I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this or any other aspect of the comp.

cheers Happy

Personally I'd prefer to keep it as it is. The proposed format reminds me of rugby league.
But it's your call ud.

I  agree  with  salmon .

Entirely your call ud, happy to continue in whichever format.

Don't have a clue about rugby, but if the majority view is to keep things as they are I'd be fine with that.

New format sounds good to me, except for the bit at the end where it all boils down to 2 weeks in December to decide the champions. A bad month weather-wise and the AW fodder could decide who wins the comp.

Fine by us Flat lads, but not sure how the jump boys will feel about it.

Just a thought...and I'm happy to participate whichever way you decide to run it, undecided.

Sounds good to me, undecided...one thing's for sure, it'll be better than rugby league - what a rubbish sport :)

Will get back to you on Barons team composition - clearly me making 4 selections every Saturday isn't ideal (especially when they all lose!)

Fair point GEORGE about the end of year thing but if we are going to split the yearly in to bits then maybe we need some sort of decider.

Great comp UD.

You currently run it Sunday to Saturday, I think we would all benefit with a move to Monday to Sunday.

I think that by having the last day on Sunday it would benefit the teams sorting out the debris of selections from the Saturday scramble.......

just a thought Happy

i know its unlikely but you could get a team wins all three periods then gets dumped in the last three play off and don't end up champions. Just the thought of that happening, whether it be to my team or another, puts me off the idea......

Ming, I have thought about ending on a different day. On the one hand, as you say it would smooth out the ending somewhat as no doubt most would still pick on a Saturday but you'd get a few more held back for the end day and also it should spread out the workload for me. On the other hand, I personally would prefer not to be tied to a settling a Sunday finish, day of rest and all that whereas the only other finishing day worthy would perhaps be Friday? Would be a bit strange starting on Saturday but might be interesting.

DeSSie, an alternative would be to crown the team that wins more than one of the three comps, otherwise a countback between the three winners as to who either scored most points or who had the best average finishing position in the three comps.

Play off sounds fun - bit like cup compies you have tried in the past.
Maybe chnage the season start / finish so it is less likely to be weather affected ( could run an interim compy to tide things over).

Maybe start March and end November then all codes catered for?

The individual knock-out comp was good fun undecided, must be 18 months ago that.
Report undecided • December 1, 2012 10:21 AM GMT
bettysboy, it is a shame that we miss out on some great flat racing in the summer months, but holiday season, sometimes we even get some weekend sun Shocked and even I may venture out on a Saturday afternoon.

I dropped the knockout comp because I wanted to cut back the number of weeks running the comp.
Maybe we could split the normal comp into 2 not 3 and have a knockout comp instead.
Report Shanelee1966 • December 1, 2012 10:30 AM GMT
The knockout idea is good ud.

That sounds more reasonable to me UD!!

The only thing with that is, DeSSie, that if one team did win the first two comps, the third one would be a little redundant. Perhaps unlikely.
Could do it just by overall average finishing positions from the three, never mind who won each individual but not sure that's ideal.
There's no easy answer lol, a bit more thought needed.

If I did include a knockout comp, then perhaps would only have time for two sessions of the league, and in that case is it worth splitting at all?
Report DeSSieReborn • December 5, 2012 9:23 AM GMT
yes point taken UD.....understand your concerns about 'redundancy' half way through comp, but its almost impossible to stop that happening isn't it, and if theres team spirit you'd expect teams to keep trying throughout to better their position? Easy for me to say I suppose because Thieves have always had a great team spirit and players who show consistently.
Report DeSSieReborn • December 5, 2012 9:26 AM GMT
I always believe that what happens in a first half can be completely reversed in second half in any team game.

My comments are as follows Ud

How many comps ?
more than happy with 2x6f events rather than 1x12f  event
if you miss the break you can always go again next time
nobody likes to get tailed off, we have suffered from that fate

Quite happy for accumulated point totals to decide Annual champs

I do think the round winners should only get 9 points
ie only 1 extra bonus point

The short sharp Cup comp in the past has always be a nice break/change
only needs to be one week per round to make it a more knock out event
Im not bothered when you have Cup, but mid season could help provide a sharp lift

Agree with the usual summer break, we all need a break esp organisers
and holidays make it difficult to get cover
I certainly benefit from a vitamin D surge (dont tell my doc)

Happy to trial alternate start &  finish days saturday will always 75% of selections IMHO
- you have time for a guy who doesnt appear, or submit a wildcard replacement
- but suspect it would waterdown the last day to the round 'climax'

AT THE END of the day
not too strong a view on any of the above
you have made many alterations for the better in the past Ud
your workload and convenience is priority
cant believe you can keep it going at the standard you do
merry christmas enjoy your break Wink
