Afternoon MOMM,

Happy Easter! Just polished off an Easter Egg here!

Key Gold - 5.00 Musselburgh.

Can I set up the following instruction:

If I don't post a selection, can I have the shortest priced favourite of the day? If that's against the rules, I will think of another instruction.

Many thanks as always.

Stealth.

Hi stealthgun.

I'm not sure, is the answer at the moment.
I can see a potential problem straight away, but I realise that the shortest priced favourite of the day is what you tend to go for most days so it would be nice to accommodate you if at all possible. I've noticed that you average about 5 or 6 days a month when you can't post for whatever reason, so an instruction is definitely a good idea.

I'm a bit the worse for wear right now (being nearly 3am here), so give me a day to think about that one.

Thanks MOMM,

As always, you do a superb job running D2.

If that instruction doesn't work for us, I will just do first race favourite or something.

Morning stealthgun. Sorry to be so long getting back to you.

I think the basis of any instruction has to be that it's a selection you could have picked yourself had you been available to post it. With something like the shortest priced favourite (SPF) of the day, we wouldn't know what horse and race you were on until the close of play. That could potentially cause problems with the 1hr Rule every time you post a selection yourself after one hour before racing has started. And the SPF could change several times during the day as markets fluctuate and horses are withdrawn.

For example, suppose the SPF at the start of racing looks like being the 1/2 fav in the last race and you post a selection at 3pm for a 3/1 shot in the 5.00 which wins. No problem so far. Then the Fav in the last gets withdrawn and suddenly the 4/6 fav in the 2.00 becomes the SPF, and loses. Your winning 3/1 nap is now an Invalid Selection because of the 1hr Rule and you've got a loser instead.

So for those two reasons I think it's inadmissible.

What I would however accept is an instruction for the shortest priced favourite in the Racing Post betting forecasts. That's a selection which won't change as the day progresses, doesn't take long to find, and makes the 1 hr Rule quite straightforward. If the selection is a non-runner it would go down as a non-runner (or you could replace it with something else).

If you don't like that idea by all means go for a different instruction, but bear in mind that if you go for the First Race Fav (as you hinted at) then that shackles you every day to never being able to post your own selection after one hour before the start of the first race.

hth, as them kids say. Happy

MOMM, That is a truly superb analysis and you have come up with an excellent solution.

Shortest Priced Favourite in the Racing Post Betting Forecasts if I don't post is ideal. I will continue to avoid Sundays as I tend to p1ss those selections up the wall anyway Laugh.

I will still post as much as possible as I know its a pain having to look through the forecasts.

Thanks for your help. Really been struggling in the evenings to get on here with the new job.

Best wishes as always.
