I`ve one eye on Kempton (Boxing Day)

Binocular will face a maximum of six rivals as he bids for a second successive victory in the williamhill.com Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day.

The seven-year-old impressed in the Kempton Grade One last season when beating Overturn, but has been largely disappointing since.

Overturn gained his revenge when landing the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle last month and the pair are set for a third clash on Monday.

Overturn's trainer has interestingly also entered Drill Sergeant, while champion trainer Paul Nicholls could saddle impressive Newbury winner Rock On Ruby, as well as Sanctuaire.

Greatwood Hurdle runner-up Olofi and Clerk's Choice complete the seven entries after the race was reopened

Eleven winners today returning a small loss, monthly total now stands at -£28.59

The top half fared much better than the bottom.
The new leader is little bobby, must be nice to sit on top of the pile. Though many must fancy their chances with only eight days remaining.

Weaver Fish moves into the top half and must be safe now.
scissors moves straight back out of the bottom four and is replaced by josh monk.
MALTWHIX almost clawed himself off the bottom with a timely winner, at least this gives him a better chance of avoiding the drop.

Well done all eleven successful napsters.

Value Seeker almost landed a cracker, better luck tomorrow.

On this day (22nd) 1984 Madonna`s Like A Virgin single went to number 1 and stayed there for 6 weeks.
Doesn`t seem that long ago. Also the 9 year anniversary of Joe Strummer`s death.

Good luck Thursday troops.

Shane, I was wondering why you said '8 days remaining', and just seen Stu's post about Dundalk being on Friday.

Wonder if it's worth starting a thread to let everyone know - unless it was just me who didn't know!

I was aware Dundalk was on on Friday but my feeling is that the organisers ought to have the say. If they want to do it I think it should be optional.

Message to all - Friday 23rd, the only meeting is at Dundalk.

I`m happy to make this optional as per Sunday rules.
How does everyone else feel ???

I`ll go with the majority who post.

In answer to your question, speaking as a player I really don't mind one way or the other as all my selections are complete guesses anyway.

I had naturally assumed it would be an optional day as there's no GB racing, but there's no reason why those who live in Ireland and/or study Irish racing more than GB racing shouldn't have the same advantage that the GB boys do when there's no Irish racing.

Speaking as a settler, and therefore a totally disinterested party, I still don't mind one way or the other!

There must be a precedent though. What's happened in the past when all GB racing has been cancelled due to the weather or whatever, but racing has still gone ahead in Ireland?

I would prefer it to be optional. I do actually pick in Ireland more than most, not terribly successfully, but not at Dundalk. I find GB a/w incomprehensible enough.

Unless the settlers fancy a day off, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be compulsory. The Flat boys have to make a selection when there is only jump racing on.

That is from the point of view that if there was just one UK meeting on, we'd be selecting, and as all Irish meetings are permitted, why should it be any different for an Irish meeting?

Thanks for the feedback GEORGE, salmon, la mall & momm`s.

A compulsory day Friday is marginally preferred so far. Lets see if the rest who have yet to post have any opinions.

I'll probably pick a loser there as it tends to be competitive stuff, but thinking about logically, if all Irish meetings are permitted, why should they be treated differently from UK meetings, and if there was a UK meeting scheduled tomorrow, presumably we'd be selecting from it?

I suppose to the answer to that George is that Irish racing doesn't seem to be given the same status as GB racing in this comp.
My only reason for thinking this is probably that instructions for FRF or LRF or whatever only apply to GB racing (unless specifically requested). Not even to UK racing (which is what it erroneously states in the Rules) as Down Royal and Downpatrick aren't included.
So it's always seemed to me that Irish racing has been included as a concession to those who want to select from it, rather than part of the main menu, as it were.
This is why I assumed Friday would be an optional day.
But like I said, I'm happy either way.

Just to keep you all informed.

It`s now 3-1 in favour of a compulsory day (Friday)

If you have an opinion either way, please shout before 6pm today.
By:

That would be fair enough, momm, obviously I've given them equal status.

I presume there will be some compers who have no interest in the Irish stuff and never select from it, so if that is the case, I presume an optional day would be fair.

Fwiw, I'd rather it was decided on what's fair and in compliance with the rules, rather than what may or may not be of advantage to those who vote! Mischief

That's a fair point from VS. What would be the situation on say for example, a Thursday in February if it was all off over here and there was only one surviving Irish Meeting?

I'm happy to leave it to you guys to decide!
