DIVISION 2 SELECTIONS for FRIDAY

The only slight change that I've made to the Rules is that I've done away with any betting on yourself to win the Title. I won't even be publishing any prices for that this month. The only betting market will be for a Top 5 finish.

I intend to make the prices a bit more generous than they were during last month's trial, and there may be some Special Offers on certain players at various times. So you'll need to keep an eye out for those as there may be some ridiculous value to be had.

Promotion Betting Competition Rules

Each player will have £500 to bet with

    - minimum bet £10
    - maximum bet in any one day on any one player £100
    - all bets must be exact multipes of £10
    - bet on the same player as many times as you like
    - bet on as many different players as you like (including yourself)
    - bet on as many different days as you like
    - no betting on the first day or the last day of the month
    - all bets must be placed by Midday (the start time of the first eligible race may be earlier in which case you may not bet on anyone whose selection for that day has already run)
    - any player who retires will be deemed to have crashed through the rails. i.e. No refunds

12 winners on Day 1 but nothing very exciting pricewise.
Still, it's always nice to start the month with a winner, whatever the price.
One day I hope to do it myself.

I see a few of you are trying to place bets on who wins the title.

Somehow I knew it would be a mistake to post prices for the Title as well as the for the Promotion Betting Competition.
That's why I said I wouldn't post them this month. I should never have changed my mind.

Let me reiterate the reasons why we're only betting on who gets promoted, especially for the benefit of this month's newcomers.

Basically, no-one's really trying to win the title. Promotion to Division 1 is the main goal. So in that respect it's a field of non-triers as far as the Title's concerned.
It's only once you feel secure about your chances of promotion that you might turn your attention to trying to win the title.
The other thing is that if someone gets a big-priced winner early on, like a 50/1 or 66/1 shot (as has happened before) then it's game over. Big anticlimax and nothing left to bet on.
So betting on who wins the title is pretty pointless. Much more fun and more of a challenge to try and predict who will get promoted.

That's why it's called the PROMOTION Betting Competition and not the Title Betting Competition.

Last month I allowed players to bet a token 50 of their bank on themselves to win the title as they were the only ones who knew if they had any intention of trying to win it! But it seemed to cause a bit of confusion.

But as always with any competition, very few people ever bother to read anything!

I'm going to go and lie down for a bit.

Maybe I should add that Zipper is quite right to urge caution at this stage. There's a long way to go and a lot of those prices are going to get much longer.
I think a couple of players learnt the lesson last month that committing your whole bank at an early stage was a mistake.
Not only that but as also I wrote above, there'll be some Special Offer days when some players will be extra value. You might want to hold some of your bank back for those.
