It`s a fair enough comment Fidway. As one of the guilty ones I would make two points
1) I am mainly a layer so I am not mentally prepared to look for long-shots
2) I am a little more adventurous, some of the time at least on turf racing, but I have little interest in ( or knowledge of ) the sandy stuff. A lot of people are in the a/w comp so I assume they have. I am therefore playing defensively this month in the hope that Jan is fine and I am still in The Prem to have a go at winning it.

There's no such thing as a 'certainty' - I've managed to 'stop' 2 1-5 pokes this year.
I rest my case.
Tar.

PS I never nap odds-on pokes in the AW comp.

salmon.fair play.so do you think if you nap 1/3 shots all the time you are more likely to be in profit than if you nap 3/1 shots all the time.

Fid, why don't you start a thread asking for a change in the rules starting from Jan 1, if it bothers you that much?

The rule change being that no one is allowed to select at evens or shorter, and if your selection starts at evens or shorter due to NRs or a gamble, that's tough-luck, it goes down as a loser.

Also your point about lots of different horses being picked in the other divs, well that's understandable as no-one will reach the 'Prem' tipping solely odd-on shots.
It's tough to reach this division (just ask Salmon! Mischief), and some of us are happy just to survive here!

hi george,am sure the rules are fine as they are. i back odds on shots all the time but dont really like napping them unless im low in the table and in danger of relegation at the end of the month. good luck regardless.

In my case the answer to your question is yes Fidway. Though i like to kid myself I can get some longer ones in better races, experience has taught me I can`t on the a/w. If you took away the odds-against ones I have gone for in the last couple of months I would be comfortably in profit.
