I must concur, things have been pretty desperate all month hence my true and lowly position in the table. What annoyed me more today blobby was the fact I was torn between Goodbye Cash ( a 10/1 winner in the end) and my selection although Hannagan did a lovely steering job!
Anyway I deserve to go down after pulling such a cunning move but will make you wait until the last race just to be spiteful!
Requisite 2120 Kempton.
Cheers to all and well done to the boys at the top, 5 with double figure profit, cracking. Another retiree in the Prem so it looks like the top 6 go up but will leave that to the bosses to work out. As ever cheers to the grafters, it certainly isn't as easy as you make it look

I've just noticed that my selection is a non-runner. Was about to give another one.
But if what you say is correct - that it can't be replaced - then that's a rule which definitely needs changing for the last day as it could very well cost me promotion. I'm sure this can't be the first time it's happened to someone.
Just have to hope now that everyone else loses

not any chance of being promoted with man of many moods selecting a non runner that was a non runner nearly 2 hours before his posting
mind you I suppose he chose it to stay ahead of undecided who posted a horse days ago that didn't end up being declared
I find this all very unsportinglike

There will be probably six going up grendel, brillant effort by you, havent worked out where you stand at the moment. I know the non runner rule is a blow to some on the last day but can see why it is that way. If a horse is all ready confirmed a non runner before racing starts then it does give you a chance of changing albeit not easy for some to post during the day. As for undecided he is by far one of the most sporting players on here, he made his selections in good faith knowing he would have to use a named selection that was declared to run today because he was on holiday and no other reason. I hope you slot in to sixth grendel but I haven`t checked yet.

its a competition and we all play within rules then we all accept results. Sorry i did not pick today - i can't get on before first race when on earlies. Thnx WF and PDB - see you next month i hope.

If six go up then i think I get promoted, I don't think i insinuated that undecided was unsporting but call me cynical about man of many moods realising he would be leap-frogged by undecided for last promotion spot should he make a live selection that lost

One thing I’ve always liked about these tipping leagues is the spirit in which they’re played. Players always give credit where credit’s due and there’s an overwhelming sense of fair play and camaraderie about the whole thing. It is after all just a bit of fun.
As I’m sure PB will confirm, I myself have on three or four occasions pointed out accounting errors in my favour which could have given me an unfair advantage: wrong SP, Rule 4 not applied etc.; even a winner which I was erroneously given on one occasion.
Bad sportsmanship is something I’ve always been very outspoken against, and I’ve always prided myself on my own integrity. So to open this thread this morning and see an accusation of unsporting behaviour on my part from Grendel came as quite a shock.
My selections for the day’s racing were made yesterday between 4 and 6am UK time. I posted one of them mid-morning. I’ve no idea if what Grendel says is true, that my selection had at that stage already been withdrawn. I didn’t check. My fault, and it could have cost me promotion. All I checked was to make sure that no-one else had selected it. Later in the day when I looked at the market for the first time and saw it was a non-runner I came on the thread to see if I could find what the last day rules were about non-runners, and to see if I could change it. Someone else had already inquired and the answer was No. So that was that.
Grendel’s accusation doesn’t even make much sense. It’s been an interesting battle for promotion this month; I’ve been in and out of the promotion zone several times. My position going into the final day was anything but secure. In the zone by just a few pennies, the last thing I needed was a non-runner with so many other players breathing down my neck. The idea that I would deliberately pick a non-runner is absurd, even if undecided’s selection had already been declared a non-runner. I knew nothing about that, and even if I had, what difference would it have made? There was a lot more than just undecided to worry about. I needed a winner!
Looking back at the table I can see why Grendel felt aggrieved. A 12/1 winner (fantastic tipping by the way) which I imagine he presumed would put him in the promotion zone. But because mine was a non-runner he fell short by just 26p. That must have been pretty annoying. But it doesn’t excuse an outburst calling into question my integrity. I can see why the thought might have crossed his mind, but he clearly didn’t stop and think it through. And it’s a thought that would have been best kept locked away rather than aired for all to see, thereby tarnishing my good name.
Incidentally, had I been allowed to change my selection, Grendel would indeed have gone ahead of me, as my intended replacement only managed 3rd place. As I said last night, it’s a rule which needs changing. Any rule which can cost players the chance of either promotion or avoiding relegation, through no fault of their own, is quite clearly a very bad rule. I think you need to look at possible alternatives and would strongly urge you to do so.
Anyway, I’d like to thank you Prodellboy for all your hard work as usual. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge last month – right up to the part where I opened this thread this morning and read Grendel’s personal attack on me. It leaves a very bad taste in the mouth and has totally destroyed any future enjoyment of these leagues for me.
Consequently, I will not be taking any further part.

I am very saddened to read this man of many moods, I think grendel would possibly regret his comments in hindsight and was just dissappointed because he thought his big priced winner still had not gained him promotion. I can see why you would feel this way and can only ask you to reconsider your decision and I think grendel may owe you an apology.

I sincerely apologise to man of many moods for any offence my posts may have caused, I am very passionate about fair play and during my many years both participating and administrating in this competition have seen many abuses of using non-runners on the final day to secure a position, I understand that subsequent non runners cannot be replaced after off time of first race but in this instance man of many moods selection was down in the paper as 'doubtful' which 99.9% of the time means non runner, this I probably would not have noticed had i not looked to see how i may have fared after my 12/1 winner came in.
I noticed that undecided had a selection that was a decs selection but had not been declared for the day, this I felt put man of many moods in a dilemma as he needed either a non runner or a winner to remain in the final promotion spot in relation to undecided.
I was wrong to air my thoughts on the matter and I now realise I may have put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5
I hope man of many moods believes me when i say i meant no malice in my comments and the context received was not the context intended
I hope man of many moods would accept my apology and remain a competitor.

ffs – it’s so well written and sincere that I’m going to look like the bad guy now if I don’t carry on!
For what it’s worth, I’m currently in Cyprus where UK newspapers are ridiculously expensive and are mostly available a day late. I don’t buy them. I had no idea it was a ‘doubtful’ runner.
And if what you say is true about people using non-runners as a tactic, then even more reason to change the rule to eliminate it.
Anyway, apology accepted Grendel. As I wrote this morning, I can imagine how annoyed you must have felt after securing such a good-priced winner. But believe me, I was mildly annoyed when I found out I wasn’t allowed to re-select. First time it’s happened to me on the final day as far as I’m aware, and I didn’t know what the rule was. I was convinced it would somehow cost me promotion. Annoyed at myself as much as anything for not checking it before the first race once I read the ruling. A lesson learnt.
Very well, I withdraw my resignation and will go in search of today’s winner. Good luck to you both for the coming month.
