Nearly there!!!
Having had to put up with Sea The Stars et al on the green stuff, the polytrack and fibresand bashers are gearing up to become the life and soul of the dark winter months . The comp will be up and running again on Monday 9th November and will run until Friday 26th March next year, culminating (hopefully) in another A/W comp gathering at Wolverhampton that will be as entertaining as is was at the end of last season...........and hopefully better attended! Further details will be available well in advance, so no excuses!
As the nights draw in and any flat horse rated higher than 70 heads for a field with a blanket on for the winter, the motley crew that are the A/W Compers are limbering up in the pre-parade ring. The limitless joys that are provided by Dunstall Park, leafy Lingfield, Suvvall and Kempton will help get all of us through the dark days of winter until we re-emerge from the darkness to the bright light of the Brocklesby and the Lincoln.
Will Mini Me, last year's champion in the points comp, train on? Will Onedayilwin make it two in a row in the average points comp, as China Castle did before him? Will Sally Cinnamon once again earn the forum frown crown (and is earn the right word?!). These questions and many, many more will be answered over the next four and a half months.
As in previous years there will be two competitions:
A cumulative points competition, winner decided by the highest points earner over the entire season
An average points per race competition, winner decided by the competitor with the highest average points per race over the season. The competition runs for more than 20 weeks and to qualify for the average points competition competitors must make selections on an average of AT LEAST FOUR (up from three last year) meetings per week.
Rules for the individual meetings are unchanged:
One selection per race
One nap per meeting
Winner selected scores 7 points
Second selected scores 3 points
Third selected scores 1 point
If SP is greater than 6/1 points are doubled
If SP is greater than 12/1 points are trebled
If SP is greater than 20/1 points are quadrupled
IF SP IS EVENS OR SHORTER POINTS ARE HALVED (i.e a 4/7 winner scores 3.5, a napped 10/11 second scores 3)
All nap points won are doubled.
Any non runner (which can be substituted at any time before the off) will automatically go on the favourite, including naps.
Points will be awarded on a daily basis, according to finishing positions as follows:
20 points:1st place
15 points: 2nd
12 points: 3rd
10 points: 4th
8 points: 5th
6 points: 6th
4 points: 7th
3 points: 8th
2 points: 9th
1 point: 10th
Individual daily meeting threads will be posted in the Horse Racing forum group the night before each meeting and an "in-running" service will (I hope!) be provided on a daily basis. I hope also to be able to call on a few people to help with the daily running of the comp. Please let me know if you can help.......thanks to a brilliant spreadsheet it really is a doddle! League tables will be updated by me on a daily basis on the your Competitions forum group.
