I had the misfortune to have severe viral laryngitis a few years ago. Could only speak in a serial killer style husky whisper for about 4 weeks. I could not have sung to save my life. (still can't)
It amuses me that Matt will be singing despite having laryngitis this week

He wasn't up to his standard last week though he did ok. I'm worried why he isn't down to sing his knockout 'First Time Ever'. I think it's because he can't hit the notes that are so high in the key he sings it in so he's sidestepping it. Not good that he can't perform his showstopper.

This may go in his favour George. If they make a story out of it on the show, he might get the sympathy vote. Also, it is a pretty good cover for his average singing.
He should try sucking on a Fisherman's Friend...or is that how he got the sore throat in the first place?

I don't know about that, I think he's got an interesting style and great voice but it is a style that strains, and laryngitis is very serious.
As Mikeeey says people may take that into account.

He looked like a miserable get in the press conference..sort of "what's a serious artist like me doing here"?
Not too proud to stop dannii playing the sympathy card on his behalf though.

Yeah sad going on if he wins this show.It will spell the end of the X factor as a credible show.
That assumes the show has any credibility left to lose pm [;)]
