I'm at little surprised at how much of a favourite Matt Cardle is, and I've personally backed 1D twice, initially at 7/1 and recently at 4/1. I'm tempted to put a further bet on them, as I really think they could take the title.

Look at JLS. They initially didnt have the hysterical teenage support that 1D have already, and yet they still came second (behind Alexandra Burke too - a very tough final).  Contrary to what many are winning, 1D actually can sing and are pretty damn likeable too. They dont seem cocky & seem like a good blend of lads.  Anyone see the 35 fans that were injured at 1D's last gig?  Girls are going WILD for them.

I think that Matt and Rebeccas vote will be split, as a similar demographic will be voting for them. This would only benefit 1D who will the lions share of the teenage vote.

Just heard that someone stuck £5k on Matt to win. Be very nervous my friend! I'm tempted over a decent sized bet on 1D myself - the return certainly makes that more favourable.

If Matt does win on Sunday, then I'll eat my words, however I certainly think its a lot more open than some people are suggesting.

Is this because you're thinking they wont get much voting action from the non-teenage groups? I wouldn't underestimate the support they've got.  And a groups gotta win sometime, right?

Don't you think Matt's like, just a bit ordinary though? I certainly don't rate him that much.

All  about opinions CB...and good to see someone put the OD case.

I've always thought they were really vulnerable for 2 reasons.

1. They're quite good. But that's it...they don't have any gears and no particular knockout song for the final.
2.If they got to the last 2 against either Matt or Rebecca...they would get mauled by the  transferable "quality singer" vote.

I just don't think they've any quality at all.  Yes five very nice, decent, good looking young lads that the teenage vote will like but haven't had one great moment yet and not even close to one imo.  It might as well be five kids off the street almost, give em' each a mic' and away they go.  Wouldn't surprise me at all if they're the first to leave.

As aa says though it's all about opinions but they're just not for me.

AA has it spot on.  It's not about groups, or whether they have broad enough support (on the latter point I too wouldn't underestimate them as they appeal to plenty of Yummy Mummy's believe me).

It's simply that they're not good enough.  In Matt and Rebecca you have two better singers.  Their best chance of success is twofold (which is why I have still kept them on side, albeit as my smallest green):

- If Cher goes out first a lot of her vote could easily transfer to One Direction
- Matt and Rebecca could 'split' the credible singer vote, enabling One Direction to come up the middle

I don't think this is likely for the reasons AA states - Robbie is not a standout duet and they still have yet to deliver a knockout performance.

You think Matt is ordinary but you rate One Direction? i don't know what show you've been watching for the past few months then.

Good singers have won the competitions lots of times since it started, and groups have actually fared ok too (JLS, Same Difference both finishing second. And I think Journey South did ok too).  What we have in One Direction is different. Now of course they arent as good as Matt one-on-one, in terms of singing ability, but we've never had a band who are so young, so fresh and who could really go on to make a go of it in the record industry. JLS have shown what X Factor bands can do, and regardless of final performances and duet partners, they'll get the votes whatever happens.

Will they get enough? Well thats the burning question. But I just think they stand a brilliant chance of going all the way, and I'm attracted by their odds. Young girls fancy the pants of them, and the fact theres five of them coupled with the clever demographic split of the members (Irish, Pakistani and three middle-class English lads) could get them a lot of votes.

PS. Just read my opening point in my last post, and I need to elaborate... "Good singers have won the competitions lots of times"... "but a few of them have since struggled since winning the competition".

IMO Matt & Rebecca arent as good as a lot are saying, and One Direction are unique enough to beat them if were only rating the strength of their voices alone.

Go for it then they're a nice price.  just think the bigger voting demograph will see their five boys standing in a line routine, no harmonies, no dancing and then compare it to Matt singing 'First Time Ever' or maybe Rebecca singing a nice song and they'll se a vasy difference.  Just my opinion.

Same Difference and Journey South ..both 3rd of 3 in the final.

Same Difference were punted into 3-1 on here  on the day Happy

interesting to see a one direction fan's point of view however
the negatives will inevitably bring them down imo
a manufactuered boyband mentored by cowell put through at the expense of other groups = helping hand,
also most voters dont like to be forced into voting for someone and will usually rebel against such manipulation and will also realise that this band have probably already had the breaks needed to be succesful in the future

the voting british public will vote for the act who they feel already
naturally possess the best talent (matt/rebecca and to a lesser degree cher)
and without their votes wouldnt make it
Report Dizzy42 December 10, 2010 11:18 AM GMT
Definitely AJ.  For the reasons you state, One D actually look worth a couple of pennies at the 12/1 available for next elimination.  Although it might be unlikely, Cher is only a couple of points behind them based on recent info, which means that the odds are all wrong currently.
