It's been done before, and is currently being done by Jessie J, and to a higher standard imo.

It's been done thousands of times before. The only reason people think it's original and no other artists are like her is because they all fail miserably, regardless of how much they're built up. The market for a Cher like artist just doesn't exist.

The fact that Lady Sov is probably the most successful of the Cher-type artists speaks volumes IMO. She rarely breaks into the top40 and her albums don't do brilliantly either and it's not for lack of airplay. Others flop and are dropped after one single - Jentina, Verbalicous etc etc

Jokers. Matt Cardles and Rebecca's are ten a penny............

Do you REALLY (all bets aside) think that Cher will win this and if so why is she clear 50/1 outsider in a four horse race?

Out of the 85 X Factor finalist over the past 7 series could someone please tell me one act that was similar to Cher??
On the other hand you could said at least 5 that are similar to Rebecca, 3 that were similar to 1D and 20 that were similar to Matt!!!

Worst topic I have seen on this forum.

donal - being original compared to x factor finalists does not make you an original music artist.

ffs some people on here are unbelievably clueless when it comes to music.  do you really think there aren't hundreds and hundreds of kids in city centres throughout the uk who can freestyle better than cher can perform a rehearsed rap?

good of her to tell us she's putting her own twist on english music.  someone should tell producers in the states: there's a young arrogant brat in the uk who does a bit of rapping in the middle of a bit of singing.  they might be interested.

And two of the ones similar to Rebecca won.

Faarting dogs on BGT are "unique" but unique doesn't automatically equate to good.

Lou : no I don't think she can win it, but I feel what she does is far more entertaining than say, Rebecca, who has barely moved a muscle since the first show. One Direction get better ever time we see them and I have a strong feeling they will uproot Matt Cardle from his comfy seat in the final. As for future careers, wouldn't surprise me to see Cher and One Direction have lots of success

Fair enough.

Donal - the worst topic you've seen on this forum, yet you've still commented on it. Ignore it if you don't like it. I'm guessing you don't have a clue about current music either. Ever heard of Jessie J? Lady Sov also did this sort of thing years ago, and there are many many more. Cher might be unique for the xfactor, but like ghatroonh said, it's been done thousands of times before. Simon needs to get another judge involved who actually has an idea about current music and artists on the scene.

problem is, nobody qualified enough would destroy their credibility by going anywhere near a show like this.

The lady Sovereign comparisons were always ridiculous. LS has nothing approaching a comparable quality of singing voice.
And the Jessie J track is autotuned to death with no rap on it?!

Cher has her own identity, obviously it's influenced by the artists she admires just like U2 were, just like the Stones were etc
Report Golfpunter December 7, 2010 11:57 AM GMT
Lady Sov is a chav, raps badly, and can't sing. Quite similar to Cher imo, although Cher's voice is better. Tbf Cher also has a better stage presence. If you search Jessie J you'll see she can rap, and her voice is really really good. Some of the acoustic versions of her songs are brilliant. She's also written songs for JT, Aguilera and Chris Brown. I think that if Cher were to make an album she'd be in direct competition with Jessie J. And on talent alone there would be no contest.

However original people think it is - and it's not - it's s***.
Report Journeyman December 7, 2010 12:08 PM GMT
The bit I don't get is why there's not enough room for all of them?

Cher is also coming through from a unique perspective. She owould be the first mainstream Romany artist of her generation, and she has her own story to tell.
Her style is a work in progress, she's been accurately described as a rough diamond.

While Rebecca is effectively a finished product, a cosy and comfortably familiar generic soul artist that will trot out Etta james covers etc for old people who are scared of the world changing, Cher has a fascinating and unchartered journey ahead of her.

could also be used to describe taking one up the wrong'un
