Louis's vote to save could never have counted for anything so sacking him and losing his vote would not have been any lose.
I think Wagners only chance was to go it alone as a one man show and try to motivate support that way as the outsider in every sense within the show.
Everyone knew he was going to set up this week with a bad slot and Louis had no authority to try and hatch a routine and song choice for Wagner to bring out the full anti vote.
I think his best chance would have been to sack Louis and go it alone and have all four judges against him instead of the phoney backing of Louis.
Its not a question of whether any other judge could have got him so far or not.
But whether Louis had the credibility not to be nobbled when it got to the end at which point a vote for Wagner was as much a vote against Louis's paymaster Cowell.

Cowell does not mind other judges, especially Louis taking the hand out of him sometimes, but there was no way he was going to allow Louis to try his best for Wagner to win as it would have made him look like a mug and that was not going to be allowed to happen.

Fair point paddleton. I'm surprised he didn't stay regardless of the slot and the song choice, since I felt the anti vote would have been consistent all the way through, hence the the odds.
