Good analysis polkoi. Rebecca just isn't interesting enough to talk about, except how poor she is at singing.

Wonder how many results Diane Vickers would have generated?
Actually I'm not cynical re this and welcome any new stats angle especially those that pick up on trends/momentum.

one direction x factor About 6,880,000 results (0.14 seconds) Ok 5 young boys and and lots of photo's and comments about them as individuals will also contribute to their research results
Matt cardle x factor About 2,790,000 results (0.07 seconds) Remember that every mention of Matt Cardle on a forum will return as one result so Lou is actually responsible for half that total
cher lloyd x factor About 997,000 results (0.11 seconds) Actually thought she would be higher with all the initial fuss about her
katie waissel x factor About 1,420,000 results (0.08 seconds) Courted all the controversy and loads of newspaper and forum mentions so you expect a lot of mentions.
mary byrne x factor About 211,000 results (0.20 seconds) Marys fans mostly wont be on the net creating a cyber trail of search results
Rebecca fergusson x factor About 342,000 results (0.07 seconds) You would have thought she would be higher but apart from mary and 1d then she has created no negative media.
Worth noting that half of these hits or maybe even more will be negative stuff for some of the contestants.

Funnily enough, although I don't want to enter into a personal argument, I don't think that what Polkoi has posted are irrelevant The problem with people who use stats/trends/polls is that they tend to ignore the ones that don't fit their argument and promote the ones that do. The simple fact is that nobody is doubting Rebecca's vocal ability, but a few of us question whether she has star quality/the X-Factor. I'm green on the girl, but compared to One Direction and Matt she just isn't cutting the mustard in terms of Google searches (I can't be bothered to see if Polkoi's figures are genuine - but am assuming they are). As for the 'negative publicity' argument, I'm not really sure that apart from Katie & Cher there has been that much negitive publicity about OD or Matt. In short, unless someone can tell me why Google searches aren't relevant, I'm inclined to give them the benefit of doubt.

Good morning HF & GB The points you make are both taken and well made. I really have no axe to grind here and my point is a more general one. If Rebecca had received 6.5 million more Google searches than OD then I suspect her backers on here would have been trumpeting the fact on the forum and it would have been used as evidence of her widespread popularity. However, because the situation is anything but it seems that many forumites are doing what we all do when we are presented with evidence that is discordant with our 'world view' namely, disclaiming the relevance of of that evidence. It's called cognitive dissonance. Don't get me wrong, Rebecca might hose up and she might be Simon's chosen one, but if I were a Rebecca backer (and I repeat I have her as a green) then I hope I would try to do what HF (to be fair) has sought to do and explain Rebecca's lack of Google searches rather than dissing the 'research'.
Best Regards

That's what I've always said. See a poll/ search, story where someone looks good and it gets mentioned however when it's a negative it's cough cough let's sweep that under the carpet type thing. It's called "cognitive dissonance" apparently. You're far more cleverer than me laughing!

Polkoi you need to be more discriminating, "one" and "direction" are common words in English.
one direction x factor 6,960,000 results
"one direction" x factor 1,640,000 results

Also think you are being slightly unfair to figgy as well.
His twitter stats at no real point have suggested that Rebecca will win and yet he pushes them forward every week.
We all have our favourites and we all have our books and not everyone will have their favourite as their biggest green. As an example Wagner is easily my biggest green and even then I don't want him to win! [smiley:crazy]

HF Please don't think I am knocking Five Leaves' Twitter stats. They have been brilliant and I'm sure are more relevant than this Google search stuff. However, my basic point still stands. Namely, despite the heroic attempts to justify why Rebecca has 6.5 million less Google searches than One Direction it is an alrming difference and makes me question whether she is 'the word on the streets' and the act people are talking about. Best Wishes

Same here...and polkoi is no shrinking violet so well up to fighting his corner.
As for stats, they didn't surprise me at all. It's only telling us who are the most newsworthy atm.
Slagging fellow contestants and judges off, or jumping into bed with them, or crying every week and acting like a drama queen, etc, etc, is what makes headlines and Rebecca does none of that.
I'm surprised she's even above Mary on the bare stats, as Mary has had quite a few dramas herself.
The ones that did surprise me were 1D. They don't create alot of drama either. I guess with teenage girls having insatiable appetites for the latest heartthrobs 'stories' pop up to fill their constant demand for the latest tittle tattle. Though it seems from Henry that the initial figure was actually wrong and it looks nearer what I'd have expected now.

No problem though, i only done it because i was bored.
Henry ,i take your point on the one direction point, ta.
If there is something to take from these figures it is the suprisingly high figure of Matts
Of course he has had a few stories in the press about this and that, but no where near the amount as Cher or Katie. rebeccas is dismally low and shows that she is just not news worthy.
