Forgive me for reminiscing back to the 1997 Cambridgshire. Anyway there is strong reasoning why you must get on One Direction right now!
1) I feel if Rebecca was going to be the stand out performer in this show she would have raised her game in the last two weeks. I feel she has plateaued and this is as good as she is. A shade wobbly, at times, in the last two weeks she has now run her race. I am not convinced she has any more gears.
2) Matt has been making the headlines in the papers for the wrong reasons lately. X Factor winners are always squeaky clean with no bad press. I can see a few more "ex girlfriends" popping out the woodwork in the weeks upcoming. Yes he can sing, and pretty well however, he is becoming a little too vocal in his opinion over other contestants. He will receive no mega positive comments from Cowell in the weeks ahead and Mr Boy Band, Louis Walsh, is firmly in the One Direction camp. As Rebecca's odds have started to drift I can see this happening to Matt shortl's profile reminds me of Essex barrow boy Olly Murs. Do we really need another Olly Murs type out there?
3) Cowell is shortly to take X Factor Stateside next September. What better way to showcase his new gig by stating that anyone can win the event, even a group!
4) One Direction are hugely appealing to the vast majority of the general public. They are improving at just the right time. Available at 6 before they performed on Elton John week they are now 3.25 in little over a week. With Cowell's marketing expect their 5 smiling faces to be absolutely everywhere you look before long. For crying out loud even Steven Gerrard's misus and kids are voting for them!
5) Im struggling to think at this time in the morning what other young teenybobber british male band are currently around. In any event, One Direction are incredibly marketable and Im sure Cowell et al fully realise this. Put it this way, who in the top three in the market would sell most records next year.
6) Come finals night and if One Direction show up with a newly formed 5 piece call Take That the votes will absolutely flood in.
7) 9/4 is still a pretty good price IMO. It will only get shorter.
Early doors I had this competition as a two horse race and backed Matt and Rebecca. I have firmly dumped both and am a massive loser on the pair now. Its One Direction all the way for me.
I tend to agree with quite a bit of that. One Direction looking like they might win. But it won't be because they're amazingly talented (obviously), but more because the competition have shown their limitations and the relentless ramping from Mr Cowell. I seen Olly on ITV2 show and he said the only reason he said One Direction would win was because Cowell was making a sign at him to say that (did anyone else notice that?). I'm not going to bail out of Rebecca though as I think she's still got a reasonable chance. If One Direction do win - it will be a sad day for Britain.

5. How about The Wanted? Number 1 a few months ago. Five-piece boyband with, I believe, English, Irish and an Asian as members. In fact, I think they are guests next weekend.

8. Cher has just been in B2, so surely her days are numbered. She must be competing for the teen vote with OD so her leaving can only help their vote.

2. IMO Matt is nothing like Olly Murs, more of a James Blunt for me.
"James Blunt has reportedly contacted his friends asking them to buy a copy of his new album.
According to The Sun, the singer sent an email out requesting they purchase Some Kind Of Trouble, saying that he is depending on word of mouth to promote the LP because of the "cynical" media.
The email apparently read: "Dear friends and friends of friends. My third album is out today. It's taken over a year to make and I promise it's got some really great songs on it.
"With a slightly cynical UK media, I am totally dependent on word of mouth, so I hope you don't mind me emailing you. You can buy it most easily at Tesco. Or order it online.""

still believe cardle will win at a canter. i firmly believe even the great voting public are really starting to rise against cowell now and will be seething that by getting rid of paige it is yet another spit in their faces, therefore they will not want him to be winning manager (regardless that he profits whoever wins) every girl i know coos on about matt and even though his performance was dump last week they will vote him to win regardless. i like rebecca but she's too...boring (for want of a better word). cardle is now a bad boy and a beautiful singer plus one of the lads, he will have ladies all over the country fizzing every saturday and i strongly believe barring this wagner campaign getting even bigger he has this in the bag

as i said above, irrelevant cowell prefers them, public will not let cowell be winning mentor so he can ramp all he wants but the fans matt has now (which are many) will not desert him and i cant see an acquired taste like 1 direction amassing many more. matt on the bridle

That's fair enough. I don't see what Matt's done wrong though with 'all these stories in the press'? Snogging one of the dancers from the show? Splitting with his girlfriend? Hardly 'off to the gallows with him' is it.
I think Matt is a long way too good for this lot in what turns out to be a poor year. Put him up against Leona, Rhydian, Alexander and Joe and he may well finish last but this lot? ........... he's well clear for me.
