Absolutely brilliant.  Probably my favourite female singer.

Quick story.  I bought my Sister two tickets for christmas about 10 years ago to see Shirley Bassey in concert.  By the time the concert came round she'd unfortunatelt split with her husband so I went with her.  It was great to see her sing.  The flowing dress, feather boa, big hair, high heels ............ and that was just me in the 8th row!

It was a truly memorable night she was absolutely fantastic.
Report Benjy November 18, 2010 11:00 AM GMT
Agree it's a bad choice for Matt [:)]

Not sure Mary can do well with any song now though tbh.

1D, Rebecca and Paije have all got good choices imo.

Cher also has a good song but I'm wondering what she will do to it. Surely no rapping in this but I feel the rapping normally covers up the weakness in her singing.

I think Mary will knocke em' dead with that song and Cher's a good singer with the rapping parts spoiling it for her.  Opinions.
Report five leaves left November 18, 2010 11:10 AM GMT
I agree Lou.
It's a song she will have sung in the clubs loads of times.
It's also a choice that just cries out pimp slot.
Rebecca and 1D obviously won't get it. Matt's song wouldn't suit the final slot. Katie, surely not.
Wagner and Paije maybe, but if there was a market I'd have Mary as a short priced fav to be last up.
Report GymTanLaundry November 18, 2010 11:12 AM GMT
Matt's song wouldn't suit the final slot

olly sang come together in the pimp slot in rock week last year.

in fairness it didn't quite suit it then, but he was still on last.

Wouldn't make her 'short priced favourite' to sing last in a bit of a lottery but favourite yes.

Report five leaves left November 18, 2010 11:20 AM GMT
I guess it was his turn, Papa, but as you say yourself it didn't really work.

The last 4 pimp slots? Rebecca, 1D, Matt, Cher?
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 18, 2010 11:24 AM GMT
I wish Matt would sing 'Here Comes the Sun' guitar in hand.  Miles and miles better than the 'Come together' dirge.  Awful song, one of the only ones I'd barely listen to of The Beatles out of everyone they've ever done.  Poor choice and yes I though Olly Murs murdered it last year too.
Report Benjy November 18, 2010 11:29 AM GMT
I'd definitely lay Mary for pimp slot if she was very short.

Expect one of the big 4 to get it again tbh. They don't really have turns.

Its the biggest pimp rebbecca has had. She has got the only one with a tune. Merseyside will go bonkers.

Who under 50 will recognise this song?

You read it here first Rebbecca goes favourite. If this is true this is the Rebecca launch pad. I have layed Matt off a bit. Matt's song is a poison chalice last year it was a nobble Olly/ Joe to win song. I have been waiting for a reason to cash some of my 10's in. I hope i ahve made a mistake and these are not the songs.

Cher has got the most recognisable song. Not as good a tune though. Could be a good week for Cher.

Not a good song for Matt at all so hoping he does something else.  We've heard that katie and Cher have insisted they do other songs in the past so why can't Matt knowing there's so many fantastic Beatles songs to choose from ask to do something else.  Hope he does or it's a mistake that he's doing it.  Very drab, dull song.

Can't see why people are knocking Matts song choice Confused

Perfect for his voice and will give him a chance to move, which he can do judging by his performances in group songs.

The song is a bit on the sexy side which should play well to the bored housewife Aka "Armagnacs missus" which is his key vote audience

Rarely have such self-confessed anti-political 'gobbledygook' lyrics been so dissected, interpreted, talked about, and, in the end, accepted as part of the music world's consciousness as those in 'Come Together'. And anyway, the line "one thing I can tell you is you got to be free" impacts that much more amidst all the 'nonsense'.

Also, it's a kickin' tune Happy

Exactly.  Deejay's just highlighting the last few words.  What about the other 90% of nonsense?  Decent enough tune but just ridiculous lyrics.  Rubbish.
Report GymTanLaundry November 19, 2010 11:21 AM GMT
there are different interpretations of the lyrics.

one view is that each verse refers to a different member of the band, which is quite interesting.

"here come old flattop, he come grooving up slowly...." - GEORGE

"he wear no shoeshine, he got toe-jam football...." - RINGO

"he bag production, he got walrus gumboot, he got ono sideboard...." - JOHN

"he roller-coaster, he got early warning...." - PAUL

if you take the lyrics at face value, and don't read anything too deep into them, then of course they make absolutely no sense whatsoever.  which for a saturday night mass-audience entertainment show, probably doesn't make it an ideal song.

still a decent funky tune though!

If true then :

Katie .....help
Does not matter what she sings, she is bottom 2 material again.
Although I thought her 'Don't Let Me Down' was rather good.

Matt.... come together
Slow, dull, dirge of a song. Olly Murs sang this didn't he?? Will drift for sure after this.

Rebecca......yesterday
Not sure about this. Could go either way. She should sings it acapella to make it stand out.

Paije.....let it be
Visualising him singing this with a big happy cheesy smile. Just does not suit him.

Mary......Something
She has the best song of the night, imho. However Mary will destroy it if she bellows it out with no emotions.

One direction....All you need is love
This is going to be a bit car crashy. Its going to look uncomfortable and sound dreadful when these kids strain the lyrics out with no conenctions to the words.

Cher......Imagine
Terrible song choice. Must be one of the cheesiest song ever. If she sticks a rap in the middle about loving the world then she is doomed.

Wagner....Get back/hippy hippy shake/ hey jude

You know what you're going to get. However he needs to start doing something different. I can already picture and hear him singing 'hey jude' with the foreign accent of his. Could be in danger this week.

Botttom 2: Katie and Wagner (sorry)

Rebbecca I have bet she nails this.

Extraordinary how most say Come Together is dull. It's a classic. Io reduce subjectivity look how others found it - it was a chart No 1 mega seller, Rolling Stone magazine had it as No 9 on their list of The Beatles' 100 Greatest Songs, and Michael Jackson chose to cover it.

Matt also has a choice of singing it moody or upbeat, not many songs give that choice. It also suits his style.

Rebecca has a tougher job because Yesterday, like last week's Candle, is much more iconic than Come Together, it's many peoples favourite and many people have fixed ideas about it. On past record she'll pull it off though. (I don't think XF would want her to sing it a capella, nor would I as a backer).
