Elton week - why?

Just wondering why the Elton John theme week.  Was this planned before or after EJ said the show was arse-paralysingly brain-crippling?  It seems odd that they would want to do an EJ week after what he said. 

I wouldn't mind betting that they would like to get EJ on as a guest with one of the finalists.  It would be a bit of a coup for them.  Cowell already tried to get him on AI as a judge.  I remember Cowell saying that he was going to send EJ a tape (of Rebecca I think) to prove that the show does have credible artists. 

Any thoughts?
