Nobody can deramp Matt unless matt lets em. He had a slight dip for part of a song that he rescued and both he and Cowell acted as if his career was over.

He is good enough not to slip agaim but is he good enough to stop the judges from psyching him out. Good but not as good as "Your face" is a great mind fkr. It saw Garcia off. He has the vocal intrument to win this has he got the mental one?

Not one word of criticism has been said to rebecca when she sounds the same every week has no personality and no expression. And there will be no criticism of her or 1 direction.

Yes I think that.  Rebecca's obviously done well and is in with a real chance but all jokes/quips aside she has done the exact same thing every single week.  Matt doesn't do a great deal to be fair but at least he's played his guitar, sat singing on a stool, took the mic' from the stand and moved a little, at least that's something!

She does come across as boring, almost too shy and whilst she's a nice quiet girl I'm sure no one seems to mention that she just does the same thing yet they pulled up Mary after two weeks of it?

lou, can you not see that a poll putting matt up against rebecca is pretty interesting?

a poll with all 9 remaining contestant has a large chunk of people supporting 7 other acts.  if those 7 acts were eliminated, their supporters would have to go somewhere.  some to matt, some to rebecca.  exactly where they'd go is highly important.

however, final night polls are all pretty irrelevant right now.  the only key KEY stats in any polls at this moment are those at the bottom.  plenty of time for things to change at the top.

That's seriously worth mentioning as there is so much factored into that price already, such as never visiting b2 (must be a possiblity later on imo) and not having a bad week.

All the good players on here know it's not just about singing, yet Rebecca offers very little in the way of personality/votability.

The Rebecca v Matt debate is one which has just really surfaced in the past week or so.

The fact of the matter is that up to now Matt has been ahead - I'll give him that. However the gap is getting shorter and shorter. Whether there is a gap at all right now is a matter of personal taste.

When all the dead wood has been filtered out and you're ultimately left with Matt or Rebecca. Who does all the dead wood support transfer to?

When you compare personalities they are quite similar. Matt has tried to play a game from day 1 with the confidence card, BUT his derogatory remarks about other contestants and little cracks which have started to appear about his private life that are now in the public domain, are doing him no good whatsoever.

The other fact that must be conceded is that the momentum is certainly with Rebecca right now. Whether that continues remains to be seen. As we all know ladies and gents, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

I'm sure SC would be happy with either as winner, but I think he sees greater potential and appeal across the pond for Rebecca.

A few indicators are kind of suggesting that the gap is getting shorter...
1. Market

3. Papers are starting to ramp her.
4. Online polls now have them neck and neck in popularity.
5. Cowell is telling the masses she is the one to vote for.

3.  What papers?  The Sun for instance highlighted Matt again today.

4.  Online polls have Matt a mile clear apart from the one Figgy started himself where they are 50/50.  NOTW had matt a mile clear on Sunday too.

5.  Cowell isn't telling the masses she's the one to vote.  Pushed into naming one act of the two for a recording contract he said rebecca.  that's hardly telling the masses who to vote!

Some really good points been put forward, I think their is a few here that seem to be a bit blinkered, Rebecca is on a different level from the lot, comments like she doesnt move, you cant remember any of her songs are laughable, you are obviously paying to much attention to your own act and assuming its a one horse race. You go through all Rebecca's live shows and you will see the real star of the show, Cowell has known this from day one. Matt has sung his bootcamp song very early into this competition, which surprised me considering he sing it really well, thought he may have kept it for the final or later on in the competition, considering he has sung this twice and we are only halfway, both are nearly the same price. Rebecca has been the most consistent, been given all the early slots so far, some dodgy songs, been kept very low key in the press. I think she could be one of the strongest acts ever to come out these shows.

AS we're talking about just these two, is this a real tortoise and hare situation?

IMO, Matt acquired a lot of his fanbase before the live shows and during the early live shows.

Will all of those fans stick with him through thick and thin (I'm sure some would still be defending him if he came out and did The Birdy Song) or will some of them slowly tire of him?

Has he shown us most of what he has to give already or is there much better to come?

Will he be able to up his game enough to pick up new fans?

We don't know for sure but we can form our own opinions regards what is likely to occur.

We only saw glimpses of Rebecca before the live shows.  Some ordinary viewers might not really have been that aware of her before then.

She started in early slots with understated songs flying under the radar a little.  Then the better songs and good performances start kicking in.  People start to notice her, she starts gaining her fanbase.  Maybe people want to hear more of her.  Perhaps we haven't seen all that she has to offer.

Is she able to continue to improve and up her game more and more to increase her fanbase?  Will the late slots she is due help her in this?

I am bored with the rival camps repeating the same thing.Lets turn to the title of this discusion.

Why has Cowell said he prefers Rebbecca over Matt.

He is a honest little soul and he cannot help but tell the truth and he beieves rebbecca will sellmore recoeds and he want her to win.

All the Cowell wants is to grow the xfactor brand. he therfore wants lots of attention on his show. One way of doing this is to provoke excotement by geting two rival groups of suppoerts at it. So he says this is the Matt v Rebbecca contest.

Now this is the biggest question. Which would create the most hoo haaa ramping Matt agianst Rebecca or ramping rebbecca against Matt. Discus.

As a thought experiment. Which gets the public going most.
