Grist to the mill of the insider conspiracists. Apologies if this is old news.

"A betting scandal which saw one person net more than £10,000 has rocked the X Factor voting system. According to News Of The World, a worker for the phone company in charge of calculating and handling votes for the programme was found to have been leaking results while lines were still open.

The leak allowed one man – the boyfriend of the female worker at the company – to win more than £10,000 by correctly betting that FYD and Nicolo would be the first out in the first week.

A show source said: “We’ll have to do a root-and-branch investigation into the security of our voting system and who has access to it.”

One of the bookies hit by the scam, Gibraltar based Victor Chandler, said in a statement: “Three weeks ago an unusual betting pattern was spotted by our investigators. The source was traced back to one of the show’s suppliers.”

A BT spokesperson confirmed: “A contractor employed by a third party allegedly passed on information in an inappropriate way.

“The matter was dealt with immediately and the third party has terminated that person’s contract. This incident in no way affected the integrity of the vote.”

Just makes it less easy to refute insider dealing claims when casual punters on here go for the obvious each week. The fact that the money seldom is correct should be sufficient to prove no insider info involved.

That said given the HS bookies baulk at a fiver on these markets respect to him for getting his bets on.

Stewards enquiry stewards enquiry

Maybe those who thought some were miming last night may have a point. Personally I would have thought there has been so much focus recently on anything bent with reality shows that they would be squakly clean. Maybe they just turn the mikes down when the high notes appear.

Public will instinctively reject those they can't hear properly methinks.

Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh have hit out at their fellow judges Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell for using ‘hidden professional backing singers’ to drown out their acts’ own voices. The News Of The World reports that “top producers and singers” are brought in to record parts of the “live” performances.

The paper says that both Louis and Dannii have slammed the practice, saying it gave Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole an unfair advantage.

An X Factor show source told the newspaper: “Louis and Dannii are furious. In their view the backing vocals on acts mentored by Cheryl and Simon are much louder and stronger than their acts. The public should be voting on who is the best singer, not who has the best production and backing vocals.”

The X Factor’s vocal coach Savan Kotecha confirmed that singers and producers were brought in to mix and prepare the backing tracks for the live shows, however insisted all of the acts have the same treatment. A show spokesman said: “Acts are always treated fairly. Chorus vocals simply depend on the arrangement of the song being performed.”
