Why has nobody critised Joe Hart?

I agree; how many saves has he actually made - for a big lad he should command his area - all goalkeepers are tall but his physical size should allow him to control the six yard box without fear - he has been pretty ordinary I would suggest

Went down like a sack of spuds on the Uruguay second goal. Would never have seen Schmeichel beaten like that

blameless for all 4 goals and I can't recall him making any mistakes during the two games.

He did not have very much to do throughout both matches but he was non.existent for all the goals.  I think we need to find a goalkeeper with a bit more presence, he definitely is no Shilton.

He's the least of the team's problems.

I disagree, get the goalkeeper right and the defence knows there is someone behind them who they can rely on.  You can not rely on Hart.

I don't like the guy at all and hope never to see one of his adverts ever again, but what's he done wrong exactly?

Marchisio goal: Long range strike, everybody buys the Pirlo dummy, nobody closes Marchisio down, shot comes through about 4 England players who either turn their back or jump out of the way. Hart could barely see it.

Balotelli goal: Abysmal play from Baines who jumps in to stop a fake cross, winger puts in a beautiful ball (when he's stopped laughing at Baines) and Hart has no chance with strong downwards header.

Suarez goal 1: Johnson doesn't close Cavani down, great cross catches Jagielka flat footed, and a tidy close range header back across the keeper.

Suarez goal 2: Woefully mistimed Gerrard header, Jagielka asleep again, goalkeeper closes down the angle and stays upright, amazing shot fired past him before he can move. Tremendous finish.


So Baines, Johnson, Jagielka, and Gerrard, have all made shocking defensive mistakes and Rooney has somehow missed a header from 1 yard out against Uruguay and fluffed a great chance against Italy.

Hart one of the few players coming back with any credit.

I don't think he could have done much about the first 3. My (amateur) feeling about the 2nd Suarez goal was he was protecting his reputation by making he didn't concede via the near post, rather than saving the goal. Is that harsh?

I just think that if you want a successful England team you need a goalkeeper with presence that is a intricate part of the defence, who the back four can rely on and is large in his goal.  The 2nd Suarez goal was probable unsaveable but I think Hart should have stayed on his feet instead of just collapsing into a lump on the ground.  Sorry but Hart does not dominate his box like great keepers do.

Did well to save those two Suarez corners tbf.

suarez just went for power on his second shot and practically hit it straight at the keeper.

if hart stands still the ball hits him but by throwing himself down to his near post he only just managed to get out of the way of the shot which missed him by inches.

Suarez last goal was typically clever from him - he anticipates the area of weakness in the keeper (just above shoulder) and fires precisely with power at the area - most keepers would have been beaten, but there's always an element of luck in any one-on-one with the keeper.

can't blame any keeper with that sort of situation - defenders/team must stop that before it gets there.

can tell you've probably never played football. Suarez wanted power on that shot, but had absolutely no clue where it was going. aims for above the shoulder

JC - whatever you think of him Suarez is one of the top strikers in world football. I can tell you probably aren't!

Don't like the way he keeps punching balls away,If he had played under Brian Clough, Cloughie would have told him if you don't start catching balls and continue punching the ball away i'll come on the pitch and punch you

all keepers punch. it was only really british keepers who tried to catch. On the continent keepers are generally taught to punch the ball. This is why for years we had patronising british commentators laughing at "clowns" punching rather than catching crosses. Funnily enough, it's just turned out to be yet another area where the british were decades behind.

if you factor in 'dropped' catches not sure punching is any worse
