No one likes Clive 'Man U' Tyldesley or Andy 'I used to be Irish but now I'm English again' Townsend, but to be fair to Clive, he deserves this gig as his beloved Man U have had a torrid season. The poor man has worn out his VHS tape of the glorious 1999 final.

DAVID COLEMAN MUST BE TURNING IN HIS GRAVE LISTENING TO TODAYS COMMENTATORS

Graeme Le Saux far superior to Andy Townsend

commentator sounded as if he was coming in his trousers every time brazil scored.

tool of the highest order

Tyldesley is an utter tool. Relentlessly telling the viewer what he already knows if he has any knowledge of football whatsover. The way he shot his load when Brazil scored… when they are a lumbering, physical team of hoofers compared to the great Brazil sides of the past. They should give commentating duties to Alan Partridge - be far more enjoyable to listen to.

Coleman lit up a game for me as a kid, i'll never forget watching the build up all day to the 1977 fa cup final Man Utd v Liverpool, when at 2.50pm Frank Bough said now it's over to your match commentator John Motson. Ruined everything in 2 seconds, Coleman was a hero to me then and always will be. 1-0.

Old school commentators appreciated 'less is more', ie, let the game speak for itself with just the occasional smattering of well chosen words to capture the moment. Barry Davies was excellent at doing this in his pomp.

The key to the best ones was their knowledge of the sport they were covering. None of the current crop have done their homework and it shows.

They are all too obsessed with the Premiership and the Prem seems to be their only reference point when they talk about players which does show a glaring lack of knowledge of international football, and a very lazy, insular approach to punditry.
