Not a lot of support for England as usual and admittedly I was one of the doubters but on review of the situation I think the England squad is one of the most under rated at the world cup because many of them are fairly new to the scene of international football and are unexposed as a unit.
Wilshire(22) 18 caps looks promising as does Henderson(23)11 caps and the talented and speedy looking Lallana(26) 6 caps but then we have the almost total unknowns of Shaw(18) 2 caps Sterling(19)4 caps whose had such a good season with Liverpool and the slightly more experienced Oxlade-Chamberlain(20)15 caps and 3 goals and also Barkley(20)6 caps.
The 3 least experienced in the front line have done well in their short time at this level with Sturridge(24)12 caps 4 goals, Wellbeck(23)24 caps and 8 goals and Lambert(32) 6 caps and 3 goals.
So lets hope Rooney with all this youth and pace around him can put up a better show than previous world cups and I think he will as the warm ups were merely there for him personally to get fit.
I think England will surprise a few with their energy and style when Saturday comes a view shared by Jose Mourinho .

I keep hearing all this talk about Pirlo but at 35 he cannot be anywhere near as good as he was and many think this is a far from vintage  Italian side.
Uruguay will prove tough if Suarez plays and is 100% but without him England can punish a less than impressive Uruguay defence and win the group followed by an easy last 16 match then its possibly Spain in the last 8 but an apparent tough opening group will give England confidence and they will improve as they progress.
ps mickey does have my watch your well informed Grin

Report 247lol June 12, 2014 11:59 PM BST
Wouldn't think he would be to bothered if people like him or not and his record speaks for itself so I think his opinion must e respected because he knows what he's talking about.

rubbish.

YOu ask Pele how a team will do he will answer to which country he is in.

With JM, he praises england then he wins, as they are sh1te. looks like the manager is failing, JM wont ever take the england job. win win

Report 247lol June 13, 2014 4:18 AM BST
Final 4 would be a result for 2 reasons (a) because they have so many young players and that would augur well for the future(b)very few give them any chance at all of even making it out of the group
Report G1_Jockey_4 June 13, 2014 12:24 PM BST
your dreaming with final 4.

maybe if we stick 9 behind the ball and leave sterling on his own up front we may nick one on the break.

trying to pay v better sides wont work.
they will open us up like chile did...and they did it very easily

chance of getting through cos italy are crap and urgay are probably suarez-less. but id say england are still 3rd favs of the 3.

might even sneak through the next round cos theyre all crap in group c.

quarter final...no chance. ripped to shreds.

my prediction would be draw with italy, lose to urgay, draw or sneak a win against starbucks and go out first round.

All about opinions and agree Johnson and Milner look the dodgy components of an otherwise interesting squad but I am sure Roy will sort that one out if he needs to.
Brazil showed how that extra bit of pace can cut defences open and for all the misgivings about the referee who I thought had an excellent game Croatia were time and again cut open once Brazil hit their stride for a COMFORTABLE win.
ps. No doubt the referee performance will drag on and on mainly because the people who bet Croatia and parts of the media refuse to believe what their eyes tell them and that was HAND ON SHOULDER PULLED BACK "PENALTY" "open your eyes ffs" Laugh

Report 247lol June 15, 2014 2:08 AM BST
Well more or less spot on England have all but qualified for the last 16 as they and Italy are clearly the strongest 2 teams in the group, Suarez is not fit Uruguay lack ideas and their defence will be severely tested with England's pace then they will take care of Costa Rica to give them an easy last 16 assignment against most likely Japan or Ivory coast which will put an improving  England side against almost certainly Brazil but possibly Spain, hoping its Brazil England would have a fairly good chance in what would be an open game of making the semi final where most likely the Krauts will be waiting yet again.
England played well tonight and would have learned a lot but Roy has to drop Gerrard he provides no cover in midfield as I had feared because of his lack of pace and that leaves England vulnerable, playing all the youngsters across the middle would be a far better idea and no better time to give them first class experience than now.

England are better than many thought but we knew there would be problems with the defence and where to play Rooney, to be fair everyone's talking about the class of the Italians but the only reason they scored 2 goals was they were given far to much space down the flanks and they fell asleep on the first goal, Pirlo is sh**e so I don't want to here people bigging up a player that was given way to much respect, when PELE sorry I mean Sterling encountered Pirlo and others he danced around them like the washed up stars of yesterday they are watch the replays.
Sterling is a superstar along with Sturridge but we need more cover in that midfield and Gerrard doesn't cut it anymore I'm afraid so grow some balls Roy and drop him, your getting there my son by listening to the nation putting Sterling in but now we need players like Oxlade chamberlain and Wilshire to come into midfield and I would give Rooney the captaincy and drop him into the centre of midfield it might just be the making of him.
England are not far away and will see off Uruguay and Costa Rica and even the Italian boss was impressed with England and said they were one of the best teams there, on another day we will beat the Italians but Roy needs to do a bit more juggling.

I think it is a "performance" thing. At least Pele has a pill for it. Happy
Report 247lol June 16, 2014 11:02 AM BST
Lol Rooney is running out of chances start him against Uruguay and if he doesn't show anything in first 45 get him off.
Report bardo June 16, 2014 12:39 PM BST
Rooney is  so overrated.

He has done nothing to justify his so called reputation for about the last 8 years

He has got so much mileage out of his early promise and is still living off the scraps of that more than 10 years later.

He has NEVER... I repeat NEVER done it for England when it really counted.

This is his 3rd world cup FFS
Report 247lol June 16, 2014 2:22 PM BST
Yep true never scored at a world cup finals in 9 matches, i actually think he has lacked confidence on the biggest stage but he did create England's goal with a great ball so its a start because he was struggling for fitness coming into the tournament and has more to offer than Gerrard I've been watching him in the league this year and he's caught for pace time and again.
Uruguay have been grossly over rated because Costa Rica who beat them 3-1 were in the same qualifying group as Honduras who were taken apart by France.
Roy needs a few tweak's to the midfield and if he's gone with Sterling he may as well go the whole hog and bring on the next generation, we have seen how pace is so effective in this world cup and if we had a bit more of it in midfield against Italy I think we wouldn't have been so exposed in that area and could have beaten them.
You cannot have one on ones like the situation where the cross came in for Italy's second goal its a danger situation and you need at least 2 guys hounding him to stop that cross coming in, Argentina had 3 or 4 on occasions chasing down 1 Bosnian to stop the movement, don't give the opposition time to put their stamp on the game.

Report 247lol June 16, 2014 2:31 PM BST
Lets hope Chamberlains fit next game pop him in their with Sterling maybe Barkley, we cannot totally rely on Sturridge why not play Lambert up there with him he's a real poacher and England need someone like that when it gets a bit scrappy.
Report johnnyrant June 16, 2014 3:27 PM BST
It's wrong to try & come up with collateral form like that, 247, esp. when it comes to World Cup football. It's not like horse racing, 'On a line through x, y should beat z'.

Uruguay only got to the finals through a play-off win 4 years ago, and were 5th in S.American WC qualifying behind Brazil, Chile, Paraguay. At the finals, Uruguay finished 4th, ahead of all those 4 teams.

Eng are continually over-rated heading into WCs and this year is no exception. There's a good reason the likes of Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, France consistently do better than Eng at WCs.
