have read most of your groups and have agreed with most, but you are way out on this group.
prandelli is fully aware of the travelling and physical demands placed on Italy and has stated that he will take "athletes" to the tournament and rotate his squad.(he has no choice) The return of rossi is huge and if he drops Balotteli and chooses imobile or cerci, Italy will have a mobile fluid attacking unit. Where they are weak is in defence. The wing backs cant defend and chellin`s partner will be suspect. By far the biggest liability will be Buffon. he is well past it. So Italy will play keepball and attack. Cost Rica will lose all 3 games. Uraguay are an aging side. Cavanni has had a poor season and suarez is their only class player. Their midfield and defence is at best average/ ageing. i think they will fail to qualify. England will qualify if Hodgson goes for youth and respects the fact you have to keep the ball. Hodgson is Englands biggest liabilty. so italy to win the group, england to come second,. |

no chances taken, no one could accuse you of sitting the fence that's for sure. I like people with strong opinions. I think you're completely wrong but all the same I enjoyed reading your post.
I think you greatly underestimate Uruguay and Costa Rica I think Buffon's experience will help Italy no end and he is far from his past it Costa Rica are a tidy little side who will cause problems and might well cause a shock |

this is going to be an interesting group, and a lot of people have filed it in the "too difficult tray"(or giving a definite opinion) we await with interest.
as i said at the start i broadly agree with all your other groups, (except Croatia) Cameroon to qualify (possible), Japan to qualify (very possible) Chile to qualify (definite) France and Belgium Justifiable favorites. will add a couple of others Nigeria and Ghana both to qualify. (you gave Ghana a good write up, and rightly so) its a toss up between Bosnia and Nigeria, but i slightly prefer Nigeria AND Spain and Argentina to flop. Spain you described perfectly in your summary. Outside chance they don't make it out the group. Argentina on paper easy group, (which might be more troublesome then they imagine) No support from the neutrals, and the same team that were poor in failing to get past the quarter finals of the south american championships on their own soil. Messi not at his best, defense pedestrian.Never seem to gel they will qualify but are vastly overrated.(can see them heavily beaten in knockout stages as per 4 years ago) who will win it, hope it aint Brazil. maybe youth will prevail so belgium france or chile. love the world cup as teams have limited resources, and thus presents excellent betting opportunities.(its all about opinions) |

what's interesting is that England are 28/29 in the outright and 1.63/1.64 to qualify out of the group, whereas Italy are 29/30 in the outright and 1.44/1.45 to get out of the group. mmmmmmmmmmmm ......
