No not the City and France left back, I mean the pearls of wisdom our expert pundits only bring out every 4 years.

I'll kick off with:
'The Italians are known traditionally as slow starters'
'Pele did say an African team would win the world cup by the year 2000'
During the 3rd group games 'As it stands..........' and repeat every 3 minutes or so just in case we're brain dead.

And yes I did steal this idea from the snooker clichés thread.

Brazil play Samba football - no they don't, they leave the boot in as required.
No country has ever won on a continent that isn't the continent that they or something.
You can never write-off the Germans - yes you can.
England are world class ... oops, their supporters are world class fantasists.
Spain are on drugs ... don't forget the others.
Argentina are brutal, Uruguay are cynical, Netherlands are argumentative, Italy are defensive, Brazil are creative, England are hard-working.

"It's a lottery" the first time there is a penalty shoot out
"The first goal is vital" before the first goal
"The next goal is vital" after the first goal
"there's no such thing as an easy game in international football" it's 0-0 with Costa Rica after 30 mins
"the two sides are cancelling each other out" it's an awful game
"it's all about putting the ball in the back of the net" someone grabs a lucky win
"he makes it look so easy" Ronaldo scores a tap in from 5 yards

"they'll be dancing in streets of... Rio/Buenos Aires/Bogota" after Brazil Argentina or Colombia grab a win

"he's not the same player he is for Man Utd" Rooney has another shocker

"he's not the same player he is for Barcelona" Messi fails to score

"he's just added £10 million to his price tag" someone has a good game

Steven Gerrard has been Englands best player - when he's done nothing.
