What a tremendous piece of vitriol. One with which I almost totally agree.
December sees the 10th anniversary of my last visit to my (once) beloved Boleyn Ground (Upton Park if you prefer). How many times in the last 10 years have I had the urge to return? Maybe once or twice. The mention of the slight danger that used to accompany you would gain nothing but disdain from most 'fans' now. For them, 'danger' is forgetting to put pickle in the cheese sandwiches they've packed for the family (always 'family' these days) half-time munchies. I've had enough of it as well. They're welcome to their target markets. F*ck 'em. |

Well said, stopped going to see my team 8 years ago. Went home and away for 14 years week in, week out. Will never, ever, go back. It's gone!

So basically it's down to :
The money. The rip off merchants. The talentless individuals on the pitch. The moronic fans. The greedy media. The frigid stadiums. Too many cheese & pickle sandwiches [:o] |

I used to watch reading on and off since 1988, never a season ticket holder. But i enjoyed it overall. When reading got promoted to the epl i got and away season ticket as the grounds were not places that i had visited before.
The core of the article isnt my reason for not going to every game, i now go and watch more local teams in the lower leagues but the pricing is just silly. I am probably a fairweather fan btw. The game is now just excuse to take advantage of a special connection between fan and club, which is now being taken advantage of by foreign investors and being ripped a new hole. |

No one can argue with that I S. The clubs take the cash in a very cold and calculating way, without giving a thought to the entertainment value. Most games are really really boring nowadays. Personally I think you've made the right decision.

The nostalgia-lovers like the author of the piece and so many others, simply weren't burdened by:
Wives, kids, mortgages, a career and other worries of life 'Wallpaper lives' as Paul Weller sings in 'Saturday's Kids' Like-minded, carefree mates made the experience so memorable.....or was it? |
