But this is the ultimate result of the last 20 years of rule changes, ref clamp downs, any tackle deemed a free kick. This is football for the TV FIFA brigade. And its sh*t to watch. Forget all this 'beautiful Spanish passing game, its Holland playing Holland' bolox, this is football minus it's soul.
i dont think its fair to say the worst winners ever but probably fair to say they were the least dominant winners of a tourney. the edged all their games by the odd goal bar single goal defeat by a poor swiss side.they could easily have lostany o ne of the other games.they didnt even qualify from the group stage with any ease, bar paraquay missing a pen the dont make the final. having said all that they are proibably just qabout worthy winners in a fairly dire comp.

Complete rubbish imo.One of the most talented teams for some time, and deserved winners. Imagine if Holland had won it,now then your statement would be accurate, average side that resorted to thuggery to try and stop Spain, cos they knew that was the only way of beating this great team.

^ Agreed. Shearer and Dixon seemed to think the Spanish side were Gods, but football is supposed to be entertaining.
For me, the world cup was poor. No standout teams or players, few great goals, atmosphere ruined by trumpets and excessive replays.
If the only positives were that the right team apparently won, and that there were no terrorist incidents then it's a sad day for football.

Never said they were unbeatable, and all sides need some luck now and then, thats football, but imo they are a talented side that play Football the right way, trying to win by passing and skill and not conceding many,2 goals in the tournament i believe.

If they were that much more talented they wouldn't have needed to save pens at 0-0 v Paraguay.
Yes, they were more talented than the other sides, but not that much more, as was proven by their struggling several times during the tournie.

Howard Webb had an excellent match , Dutch were a disgrace , could have easily been down to nine before half time , they new he wanted to keep 11 v 11 and abused it , Cruyff must have been disgusted , do I not like orange.

Complete rubbish imo, best side in the tourney by a country mile. And I really enjoyed the whole f*cking comp, well, after the 1st round of group games. Including the final, which bizzarely is being talked about as a poor game. Both teams had bundles of chances, and the game was settled by a cracking goal by one of the best players in the world in extra time. What more do people want.

Oh come off it buddeliea. Spain 'play football the right way'? Are you serious?
This is the team who fall over as soon as anyone goes near them (and often when no one's near them), scream as though they've got a broken leg, intimidate the referee and wave imaginary cards.
Not my idea of how football should be played.

If Torres had been fit and firing Spain would have strolled it, to win without your best striker is a tremendous achievement , especially when the opposition are trying to kick you into orbit.

One ugly looking boot in the chest, worthy of a yellow. Apart from that you've been conned by all the screams and dives.

But the Spanish are still pansies that like to throw themselves on the floor, and would rather pass the ball around for 50 passes than go for goal - so if thats some peoples idea of the 'best' sort of football I suggest those fans get down to the Ballet.
There's nothing wrong with direct, hard tackling football for me personally, although I think the Germans showed this best at this WC.

Very good world cup in my view . Could be that Premier league football is so differant from continental that people are just not liking the style . BBC in the SF game critising Spain for not being direct or shooting quick enough ...as if if its not 100 miles an hour its not football . All nationa lteam now have good tactics ,coasching and players spread accross top league . The day of amatuers being battered is gone .
Spain are the team of our generation , they cant blamed for Portugal, germany, paraguay parking the bus .......they did get them in the end ,and did not concede a goal in the process

Made 3k by backing Germany and laying off before the semis. Spain were lucky to win last night. Netherlands were Robbened. But I have to say Spain play boring football. A goal a game.

Well its each to their own,but imo too many on here like premiership type football rather than the way Spain play, not a problem with that but personally i could watch them all day long, and to be honest their is not one side in our league that have players capable of producing the passing ability and skill that Spain have, and no other team in the WC either. Deserved winners for playing Football the way its meant to be played imo,and even when teams try and kick them out of their stride they just get back up and start again with the belief that if they keep playing that well they will eventually succeed, and they do succeed 9 times out of 10. You can keep yer 100 mph kick and rush or whatever you call it!!

Fair enough shrewd, but that German team was outplayed by Spain, and the way Germany approached that game told me they knew they werent as good as Spain.

Got to agree bud, what really struck me last night was how far away england are from winning the world cup. Both teams were miles better than we can even hope to be with our current crop of players. And that includes the dutch. They were very very cynical in the 1st half, but when your trying to beat a team as who are as good as spain are at keeping the ball, stopping them has got to be one of your main tactics. 2nd half i thought they came into the game far more and that it was a thriller. Both teams had multiple cances and the game could have easily finished 4-4.
Anyone who thinks the quality of football played by those two teams was not miles better than what we get served up in the english prem week in week out has no f8cking clue about the game.
Really glad spain won it they are miles ahead of the rest right now, and with a slightly sharper attack at this world cup would have won all their games by a far bigger margin.

I think video eveidence (and an off-field referee) would sort out (1) goal-line problems (2) offside (although very good decisions in WC) (3) fouls
Sorting out foul play with video would be the major benefit. I once saw an uner-age international game ended by the referee as one side had less than the minimum players allowed (is it eight?). If that happened in a full international teams would get the message.
