He's a nasty piece of work. Don't think ive seen a game where he's not got out to hurt players. Always at it. Should have got a straight red for one of the tackles tonight. If fifa had any balls they would use video evidence and ban the nasty piece of shitt for the final. Like the dutch but just cant stand players like him trying to seriously injury others. He's being doing it all his career. He's a thug.

Never quite understood why he gets in (otherwise) decent teams.

A kind of Dutch Gareth Barry.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but what you've written suggests that Man City or England are decent teams.

Shouldn't even have been playing last night.

How he wasn't booked against Brazil is beyond me. At least 4 tackles which warranted a yellow card and it wasn't given.

you soft fairies--he is just an old fashioned footballer

Known as a Dreckschwein in Germany, a player who will put himself about in the centre of midfield, plenty of niggling fouls, cynical as fcuk, but will walk through walls for you. Does the simple things well, gets it and passes it onto the more talented players.

I just don't like him - he seems very uncouth

How admirable was it of the Uruguayan player to leap back to his feet after that leg-breaking challenge. If Robben had been on the receiving end of that, he would still be rolling around on the ground now and his team-mates would have surrounded ref to ensure he got sent off.
Report DIE LINKE July 7, 2010 10:23 AM BST
first name on the team sheet for most managers, the engine of the side. he's a snide fcuker but nowhere near as cynical as a Ronaldo
Report Rookie360 July 7, 2010 10:27 AM BST
Completely agree about MVB, nasty, malicious and for once commentator on ITV made a fair point about why the fook isnt the ref booking him?

A truly mean **** of a player.

hes just the kinda player england could do with in midfield.the fetch and carrier type  but doesnt give the ball away, keeps his passing simple unlike barry who picks out the other team with incredible accurracy.england clearly miss hargreaves  who when fit would do a similar job.

first name on the team sheet. pity we couldn't find a similar player. obviously we just go in for supremely gifted and technical players.

I'd love to see him up against a young Roy Keane. He'd be in a wheelchair afterwards.

Snidey, nasty cheat who thinks he is a lot harder than he is.

Who? Keane or Van Bommel?
Report loserschaselosers July 7, 2010 8:19 PM BST
you think MvB is nasty and you bring in Keane ? A man so lacking in integrity he admitted he tried to end a player's career. this forum sinks to ever lower depths of ignorant tosh.

Report Czechbet July 7, 2010 10:01 PM BST
can see him sent off in final, will be interested to see first booking prices, he won't get close to Xavi will have to use filth, and de Jong for that matter loves a booking
Report singero July 7, 2010 10:07 PM BST
some of you just don't like van Bommel because he's a competitor and winner who beats your precious over-paid teams and exposes all the players who should be performing off the 5 m platform.

very good player! never gives the ball away, wins it in the middle constantly, and annoys the fcuk out of the opposition.....

first name on any managers team sheet as has been said already
Report jan_vermeer July 7, 2010 11:37 PM BST
very good player, robbie god fowler your name suggests u know fcuk all about football, and with that pathetic comment that just confirms that,a very good player is someone who can play football not someone who goes out on the pitch to intentionally injure a fellow pro,in other words,a coward, but hey if u get away with it week in week out then why change, xavi is a "very good player" iniesta is a "very good player" david villa is a "very good player" wesley sneijder is a "very good player" mark van bommel is a very good nasty piece of sh1t!!!
Report Robbie GOD Fowler July 7, 2010 11:48 PM BST
wow, very articulate aern't you Jan!

anyway, yes, i would still stand by my comments on Mr Van Bommel being a very good player. i mean, he must be semi decent if he has played for PSV where he reached a Champs League semi final, Barcelona where he won a league title and champions league medal, and now at Bayern where hes won a few league titles and made a champs league final.....

your comments however suggest you've watched his last two games in the world cup, listened to a few commentators, and based your judgement on that. probably about average for a betfair user however.....
Report jan_vermeer July 8, 2010 12:05 AM BST
no,my comments are based on his career as a whole, and your comments about him being "semi decent" just bacause hes won a league here and a league there, that means fook all, luke chadwick has a premier league medal, johnathan greening has a champions league medal, does that mean there "very good players" no,didnt think so,as ive already said,he's not a footballer,u or i could do what he does, how hard is it to kick people around the pitch?
Report Robbie GOD Fowler July 8, 2010 12:10 AM BST
jan, you're so far off the mark its not even funny. you must be fishing Laugh

ok, you have your view, and i have mine. no need for the personal insults though....

I know one thing, Iniesta and Xavi won't be able to stroll around on Sunday. I personally don't like him but he does a job for the team as Nobby Stiles and Chopper Harris used to do. Not everyone can be a Messi.

Report moneypenny July 10, 2010 12:30 PM BST
2.2 on here now looks a fair price. Worth noting that Webb booked him in Champions league final also

Report moneypenny July 10, 2010 4:10 PM BST
Best odds on a booking also cut into evens with books
Report gbeire July 10, 2010 11:33 PM BST
evens still looks good. got away with murder so far so hopefully officals wathching him from the word go. expect xavi and iniesta to run rings round him
Report moneypenny July 11, 2010 9:29 AM BST
Its strange that lads are willing to take evens minus commission on here when commission free evens is available elsewhere.
Report loserschaselosers July 11, 2010 10:27 AM BST
what's strange is he's played every minute of the 6 matches so far and only been booked once and yet the usual losers on here want to back him at evens .
Report bossiefossie July 11, 2010 11:08 AM BST
I disagree loser i think evens is cast iron and i will tell you why i have just got back from the world cup and watched the holland v cameroon game game and watched van bommel and thought to myself what is all the fuss about this player and how does he get a regular place of which we now know . Against cameroon which isnt exactly spain he looked slow which he is he constantly got on the wrong side due to him being slow which he is , now imo he would know which way to turn against xavi ( who is on a different planet to any midfield player in the world cup )and alonso with there quick passing he with be completely out of his depth and be made to look what he is A VERY AVERAGE SLOW PLAYER so i have lumped on at evens and having 1/2 stake to be sent off . Also another plus is howard webb who aint shy giving cards out give them one chance then there booked i could be wrong but i think evens is a gift be lucky.
Report outofbounds July 11, 2010 11:55 AM BST
"webb aint shy at giving cards out". Im not sure where you got that research from, webb gives out fewer cards than the average referee.
Report bossiefossie July 11, 2010 1:06 PM BST
This aint your average match its the world cup final believe me evens is a gift and unlike most i have put my money where my mouth is .

his price to get booked is getting a bit ridiculous now. 4/5?  i was thinking of backing earlier on in the week at about 6/4 but might become a layer now.
