Spain are struggling lay off

The manager is picking players not based on current form....will all end in tears imo
Report bardo July 4, 2010 11:02 PM BST
why dont you just play smart and hedge a bit stickick a few hundred on a germany 1st - holland 2nd or vice versa straight forecast available at 7-2 with spoils and paddies...

that way if the germans beat spain you can still make some wonga
Report tanifc July 5, 2010 9:28 AM BST
sit back and enjoy i have a big one coming with spain to win and im confident as germany have peaked spain will get into 4th gear and win by a goal prob 2-1

I have a wedge on Spain at 4/1 and am keeping the faith. If before the tournament started you were told that they had to beat Portugal, Paraguay and Germany to reach the final you would have well pleased with that. It's a tough tie to call between the two and I would make it a 5/6 each of two pick. I think a lot will depend on the side Del Bosque picks. As much as I love Torres, I think he should start with Villa up front on his own with Fabregas supporting or play another holding midfielder to stop the German counter attack threat.
Report tiny dave July 5, 2010 10:30 AM BST
depends how much the orginal stake means to you?

personally im on spain and if you told me pre tourney last 4 would be germany, urguay, holland and spain i'd rubbed my hands with glee

i still take this stance

germany are good, but been overated imo, shot their load to early...spain on other hand starting to slowly look better

holland are tough oppenents and full on confidence....but we'd all taken holland over brazil in final
Report shrewdbury July 5, 2010 10:40 AM BST
Lay them off - Germany are playing better plus Holland are stronger IMO, so plenty that can defeat them here.
Report SatelliteFlight July 5, 2010 10:51 AM BST
I've been backing Spain for the best part of 2 and a half years and im super confident Cool, if you gave me the teams that are left at the start of the competition i would of took it so im happy Grin, alos have Holland running for me as a decent winner too with the other 2 losers but i will be standing my bets and not laying anything off,

Vamos Espana Cool

You better hope Germany play a lot worse than they have so far...
Report idiot July 5, 2010 11:08 AM BST
Stick with your bet. No point in backing out of it before its even got going.

Spain haven't looked that impressive so far but have had to play against a number of teams employing fairly negative tactics against them and despite that have come through without any injuries or suspensions to worry about. Iniesta, Fabregas and to a lesser extent Torres, have all been eased through their injury problems.

Germany on the other hand have been dogs in almost every match they've played and have not come up against an intense defensive strategy in the way that spain have. They will also be missing arguably their most potent attacking player in Mueller for the semi final.

The calibre of the german opponents is also worth review. Argentina and England have been highly rated but both Capello and Maradona failed to pick the right squad, team or tacics. Spain's opponents, though less vaunted, have actually been superior.
Paraguay finished second in qualifying just behind Brazil and Portugal are ranked third in the world. Both possess extremely tight defences which Spain managed to open up eventually.

I'm convinced that, while the Germans pose more of a threat to Spain in attack, the likes of Friedrich, Mertesacker, Boateng and even Lahm will leave greater opportunities for Spain to score than they have had to date. Its worth remembering that both Argentina and England actually had more shots and more shots on target than the Germans did in those two games and that both games were very much in the balance until the hour mark. Imo an awful lot will depend on whether Khadira can cope with closing down the spanish midfield or not.

Yes they have been playing well but i have no doubt in my mind if both teams play to their ability Spain will come out on top

just lay your stake off , i,m pretty sure your on a winner , look classy to me , will up the game and i would look no furher then spain winning outright, have best striker in competion, also experince in right departments, anyone got spain running agaist them , are surely in trouble , come on spain ,your nearly there

Argentina 'looked classy' too....

I also didn't think they looked all that classy when struggling to score against both Swiss and Paraguay, not much classy there.

i's say wait and see the team bosque puts out against geramny, if he sticks with torres lay it off, they cannot carry him any longer, otherwise dont fear germany, ok the world and his dog have been impressed by them against argentina, but argentina were an accident waiting to happen, germany now face a better organised team, germany hardly impressed against ghana and though they missed klose they miss muller here
Report the fink sisters July 5, 2010 2:53 PM BST
This will be close but I just favour Spain. Because they have such an exalted reputation, it strikes me that the teams they've played have set up to stop them playing, keep the game tight and try and nick a goal. Spain might have a bit more room against the increasingly confident Germans and I think they'll be able to hurt them. Plus if Spain get ahead - as they did against Portugal, they are more than capable of killing the game off.

Do people think Germany would have scored 4 against the Paraguay /Portugal defences/tactics? I doubt they would have scored at all.

Christ knows what Spain would have done to England/Argentina.
Report Clarky9 July 6, 2010 12:06 AM BST
I'm on Spain, but I can't believe how blinkered everyone on here is.

Everyone says how 'average' this German team is, but let's look at their results/performances:

Germany 4-0 Australia

Absolutely destroyed the Aussies, who to be fair only had 10 men for a lot of the game. The Aussies then drew with a very good Ghana side and beat a talented Serbia side.

Germany 0-1 Serbia

Had ten men for over an hour and outplayed Serbia, creating so many chances, but not taking any.

Germany 1-0 Ghana

Controlled the game and beat a very good Ghana side who were a hand away from making the semi final....

Germany 4-1 England

Hammmered a talented but disjointed English team, breaking with breathtaking speed.

Germany 4-0 Argentina

Best performance of the World Cup by any team. Kept a clean sheet against the best attacking side in the tournament.

So how are this Germany team 'average' exactly?
Report Clarky9 July 6, 2010 12:08 AM BST
Germany would have got five or six against Paraguay or Portugal....
Report attitude adjuster July 6, 2010 12:17 AM BST
Yeah right [:D]

no team has parked the bus in the German games

if the Germans start to believe the hype, then they may lose their best chance to beat Spain.  i.e  sitting  in and try to catch them on the break.
Report turtleshead July 6, 2010 12:30 AM BST
Spain have been incredibly average so far, and it's only down to corrupt refs / Fifa (they didn't want another big side going out so early with France and Italy) that they even made it through the group. Paraguay would very likely have beaten them were it not for their missed penalty.

Germany will wipe the floor with them imo, it's utterly unfathomable how they are not favourites to win the game, can only assume the layers have missed the entire tournament, still, not complaining though!
Report coolhand July 6, 2010 12:58 AM BST
im on spain, and i think they have the beating of germany

germany have had teams in front of them play straight into their hands, they have been allowed to boss the midfield, england lacked width which allowed ozil/mueller/podolski to get straight through against the two fullbacks, and argentina played with 5 attackers and one holding player (mascherano), which exposed the shaky defence too easily,

the germans controlled both those games with schweinsteiger at the centre of everything, but they havent met a team yet who can retain possession as well as spain can, spain havent fired yet in this competition, but there have been signs, the second half against portugal was great and the final 30 against paraguay were good,

i agree with RIDER and think that torres needs to be dropped, and putting llorente up there would be wise but not sure if del bosque will,

spain to win 3-1
Report wtf123 July 6, 2010 2:16 AM BST
what is unfathomable so far is how germany were not favourites against england and argentina. These games proved walkovers for the germans but v spain its an entirely different problem for them. I,ve got it right so far by backing the germans, love the way they have played but i bet with my head, so for me it has to be Spain as long as they dont start torres. They are the best team in the world with the best players, end of.

wtf123 and coolhand are the only two on this thread with sense..

spain have been by far and away the best team in the wc.. they have kept the ball well and torn teams apart maybe without scoring 4 goals in the last two games but against a portugal team that is superb in defense they tore them apart second half..

and they have been carrying torres as well so they are playing with 10 men..

i expect the spainiards to win 3-1 3-2...
