Given that the Prem league cannot start any earlier, or finish any later, surely the best way for us to guarantee future English World Cup success, is to massively condence all the fixtires and have a winter break, no manager to the best of my knowledge has ever raised a concern about fixture congestion so I reckon we should play 19 games on successive days in August and the remaining 19 games after Easter, giving our brave boys a 7 month long winter break
Winter break for fitness reasons or weather reasons?
And what happens in a World Cup/Euro year when the winter break finishes and there's snow and ice stopping games being played? Then there will be massive congestion partly because no games were played during the winter break when they could have been. In 1985-6 the freeze meant West Ham ended up playing 10 league games (I think it was) in just April alone. Alvin Martin didn't complain!
Tiredness is a massive red herring. Get your rest and stop running around promoting this and that for an extra few quid. Anyway, they had from 9 May to 12 June (apart from a few kickabouts) without serious games. I've never gone in for slating them for earning loads of money, but they really are a disgrace. As someone said recently, a Premiership footballer can smell an excuse from miles away!
