Doesnt score goals so how he got in the squad let alone on the pitch is baffling? strikers need to score goals, Heskey doesnt. Peter Crouch should have started every game as he scores goals at a better rate than all englands other strikers. England with the correct tactics the right players and Harry Redknapp as manager can reach the euro 2012 semi finals.

Why is heskey in capitals and the donkey isn't. Surely the donkey is of greater importance?

the donkey might actually score goals so you have a fair point.

Emile Heskey was the most feared striker in Europe around 2001.
Has all the ability in the world but lacks the attitude and confidence which is the reason we arent talking about him being one of the best strikers of the last ten years.

Can you not talk about a player without abusing him?  Abuse does not improve your case.
Report MRGRUMPY1 June 30, 2010 12:22 PM BST
^ Was that the season he terrorised defences and scored about ten goals. Really prolific.
Report AgentS June 30, 2010 1:25 PM BST
Heskey scored more goals in qualifying for the world cup than Torres and both played the same number of games (7 game IIRC).

Heskey was also one of the best English players in the first game against the USA.

He might not be a prolific goalscorer, and as a Villa fan, I'd prefer if Villa sold him. However he didn't do any worse than Rooney in the World Cup.

Also while Crouch has a good international record, he doesn't have a great scoring record at club level. Gabby had a better scoring ratio last season, can hold the ball up, is strong and one of the fastest players in the premier league.

Heskey is one of the few England players who we have no right to be angry at. He played at exactly the level expected of him every game, a model of consistency. Utter garbage, mind, but then expected anything different?

except the most important goal in Spurs' recent history against City only a few weeks ago....
Report Haslam June 30, 2010 3:59 PM BST
It wasn't Heskey's fault that he was picked but he did at least look like he was giving his all in the first game.

Unfortunately England can't afford the luxury of playing a striker who doesn't score goals no matter what system Capello wanted to play.

One letter away from being a very different thread.

And that letter is what, ghostly one?

I didn't say he didn't score important goals, I was mentioning his goals to games ratio in the league.

Capello walked in to the dressing room at half time and saw a big turd on the floor.

"ffs, who's schit on the feckin' floor" said Capello

Emile Heskin sheepishly puts his hand up " me guv, but I'm not too bad in the air"
