I like many of you want to get what went wrong of my chest so this is my way of doing that. My psychiatrist said it would be good for me.[smiley:crazy]. I have listed what I feel needs to be addressed in the future if we are to have any hope of success in our lifetimes. I have concentrated on 4 areas. You may or may not agree with what I have said but feel free to add/change/delete etc so that we have a robust plan that we can send off to Sir David. I will also randomly pick one of you to apply for the managers job when Mr Capello is booted out!
Four point plan to success
Quality of Players Picking the right players is essential. It doesn’t necessarily mean that all players have to be top quality though. There are 4 key areas that should be filled with the very best available. Those being • Goalkeeper • Centre back • Centre Midfield • Striker All other areas can be filled with players who are of a good standard and have that all important attribute for the modern game. Pace. Having experience at European level is also desired. Tactics This is where the manager earns his corn. • He has to be an expert on tactics. • He must be able to adapt to any emerging situations on or off the pitch quickly and decisively. • He must not be tempted to play players out of position except as a very last resort. • He must build a team around his best player and bring the best out of them Morale Clearly this has a massive bearing on the effort that players put in. The manager must • treat the players like human beings and • advise players how to behave off the field whilst instilling discipline and belief on the field. • Ensure that during major tournaments access to family is guaranteed In return the players must • Respect the manager • Be united • Look after their well being • Be a role model • Keep a low profile in their private life Planning The FA must get their planning in place. • Every Premier league team must have an academy that prioritises English talent. • The FA should reintroduce the England B team fixtures to bridge the gap between the under 21 side and senior level. • At grass roots levels competitive games should be discouraged and skills training encouraged until the children are 13-14 yrs old. • In the season that we qualify for major tournaments then a winter break must be introduced.
When responding please highlight the area you want to add to and I will update and re issue from time to time Thank you for your time

So Blackpool would need to have an academy to qualify to play in the Premship then? I dont think youve thought thru what happens when teams are relegated/promoted.

I suppose its no different to having a suitable ground. I believe Blackpool are having to rebuild. There would be a few months grace needed to get it up and running of course but surely the team itself will want to have an academy just for its own future growth. If teams are then relegated then the massive parachute payment will surely cover the ongoing costs for the 4? years that this payment is made. After that the club can decide to ditch or keep. Thanks for bringing that up tho

You are in danger of substituting one "must have" for another. Being fast isn't the be all and end all. Klose was no faster than Upson in a straight race. His first yard which made all the difference was in his head. If there is one ability which should be prized above all others it is awareness of space. In attack you need to create it and in defence you need to stop it being created. Too many times against the Germans one of their players was able to stroll off his marker into a space where he was left unmolested.

^ you are right. Klose is awake and aware. Getting to where the ball is going to go takes judgement and effort. And making it easy to be hit with a pass means you have to go into space. (Klose is only 5'11", a bit small for a hit man.)

sorry to pour scorn on you and sir trevor brookings love of academies, but middlesbro were rightly acclaimed to have one of the best acadamies in the premiership, they fielded 11 locals against fulham and since the young kids were giving a chance, the team has gone from the euefa final to languishing in the championship,99% of that team now plays div 2,3 nonleaguse or in scotland, any team in the premiership can field 11 young englishmen, but in most cases would be inferior to the foreigners they would replace, far better the ones that breakthrough compete against the foreigners u,d leave out,the fight to medicority helps no one, clubs or england
