OK, the FA have given themselves some breathing space, but given their finances, it's unlikely that Capello will be shown the door.

If Capello does go, who would you put in the hot seat?

Two schools of thought: We have given the job to top foreign coaches, sandwiching McClaren's brief tenure, so now time to revert to an Englishman - which leaves just two candidates - Hodgson and Redknapp. This is effectively one candidate given Harry's likely ongoing issues with his finances. Hodgson looks likely to pen a Liverpool deal this week, so he may not be available.

The other option would be a foreign coach. Given England's need to build, Wenger is surely the only option on this front and there is a suspicion that he's becoming disenchanted at Arsenal. Time for football's ultimate romantic to be let loose and given free reigh to build an alarmingly young side?

Problem with Redknapp is, he'll keep picking his nephew, Lampard, who needs to be sidelined now. He has also gone on record as saying there's no reason why Lampard and Gerrard cannot play together in centre mid. If I ever see these 2 in England's centre mid again, I'll give up the will to live.
I think the time has come for a leftfield candidate to take over the England job. Lady GaGa maybe... a herd of Peruvian goats... or how about Francisco Varallo - the only surviving player from the first WC in 1930, now aged 100.

cappello has to stay and success, must be judged on what we expect. At the moment we will do well just to qualify for any tournament and that will be success for me

I agree with your point about expectation. Fact is, on FIFA rankings, England are 8th, so QF should be a 'par' performance. Having failed to make the most of the group fixtures, we were left playing the 6th ranked team, so it is a game we were expected to lose.

darn well hope so, whoever takes over if he goes, the cupboard is close to bare and will be, until we remove alot of the very average foreigners we have in our game.
