Look again brother

Netherlands TWO Chile NILLY
Report wtf123 June 28, 2010 4:55 PM BST
brazil have to beat a good chile side first. Also have the dutch finally worked it out? The always look and play like world champions but never get their hands on the prize, now they look workmanlike at best. Football is a funny old game u know!
Report SatelliteFlight June 28, 2010 4:59 PM BST
just like you saw a Slovakia win today Confused Devil
Report 1hearts June 28, 2010 5:25 PM BST
Holland are distinctly average.  Not going any further.

Brazil v Spain or Argentina final.
Report Desmond Orchard June 28, 2010 5:29 PM BST
How ironic that just when the Germans build a team capable of fluid, total-esque football, Holland put together a highly effective, remorseless, and yes - dull, outfit who have not yet got out of second gear and seem destined to grind ever onward in this years tournament.
Report 1hearts June 28, 2010 5:32 PM BST
We must have watched different games today.  They won fair enough, but I saw nothing in this game that will worry the Brazilians.
You are using the same reasoning I heard when people were describing Engalnd. ;-)
Report Desmond Orchard June 28, 2010 5:38 PM BST
Hardly, Holland have won their last 12 competitive internationals and haven't come off the bridle in this tourney yet. We don't know how good they are yet, I imagine that that alone would be enough to worry a Brazilian team that made hard work of beating N.Korea and were unimpressive in bore-drawing with Portugal. But in the meantime, they might well have their work cut out tonight.........
Report 1hearts June 28, 2010 5:42 PM BST
As I have said before.  Judge on what you see not what you think you might see.
England backers were sure they were better than their play in their opening games suggested and backed them in the belief they would improve.
Holland have shown nothing in their games so far to suggest they are anything other than ordinary.  Whereas the Brazilians have shown great skill at times in all their games.

They will win with ease tonight.

Setting myself up here aint I ;-)
Report Desmond Orchard June 28, 2010 5:47 PM BST
Ha Ha, maybe Hearts, maybe. Reckon they'll have a tough time tonight, but come thru after the odd scare. It's sure to be entertaining, I like the way Chile go about the game.
I do, however, believe that Holland, who are not exactly scraping thru like England did - rather they're cruising thru without seemingly breaking sweat, will give Brazil much more to think about and think that they will progress, perhaps aet/pens.
Report 1hearts June 28, 2010 5:57 PM BST
I'm hoping Chile don't win.  I had 30 quid on them at 90s and a tenner at 60s then layed off 46 quid at 60s cos I thought the Swiss would qualify.

I have 100 on a Brazil v Argentina final at 22.  and a saver on Brazil v Spain. Also got Brazil to win.  A few quid on Uruguay at 150s.
So maybe I'm a bit biased ;-)
Report Desmond Orchard June 28, 2010 6:04 PM BST
Holland are the biggest winners in my book (after a daft few quid chucked at Ghana before they lost to Germany, that I will trade out on if they reach the Semis), followed by Spain, so perhaps my pocket has an influence also Silly . FWIW, I've saved with a Brazil/Spain final, as I do see them as the only danger to my 2 main bets. The Argies and Germans play some pretty stuff, but they way that they defend (a decent side would've scored a shedload against either yesterday) marks them both down as unlikely winners for me.
Good luck tonight and for the rest of the tournament, the QF notwithstanding Laugh
Report the happy lagger June 28, 2010 6:32 PM BST
im on brazil for nice dough, but im worried about fabiano, hes on a booking, and gets wound up, who else can come on up front for him?just check out the stats on bra v chile, well stacked in bra favour, but anything can happen, as we saw yesterday with the jerries and the argies.
Report bexley June 28, 2010 6:51 PM BST
Got to agree with hearts re Holland so far. Haven't been impressed.

Japan played over defensively against them and when they conceded and started to push forward they had Holland on the back foot and nearly equalised at the very end. Holland didn't 'cruise'. Neither did they today. At 1-0 Slovakia had a few decent chances and the pace of their wide players caused Holland problems. Terms like 'cruising' 'in second gear' or 'playing at 50%' well you are seeing what you are wanting to see from a highly regarded team.

I guess we all see it differently but they aren't for me. As i said on another thread I reckon Holland v Brazil will be dull, dull, dull. De Jong and Van Bommel, Melo and Silva, hmmmm....not what I want to watch.
Report the happy lagger June 28, 2010 6:58 PM BST
slovak forward missed 3 great chances in the last 10mins, what would brazil do with them?
Report 1hearts June 28, 2010 7:13 PM BST
Lets hope we all come out winners in the end.  I'm off over for the final, Leave on Thursady morning. ;-)

Desmond I woiuldn't be to quick to drop the Ghana bet, they are one of the few teams left I wish I had backed at big odds.  Strong and well organised side.

Germany holland final, they both play clever football, good balance, good in all departments.
I can't pick a winner though.

Paraguay to beat the winner of portugal and spain.
Report bexley June 28, 2010 8:20 PM BST
Slovaks didn't post this than for any other reason than to show how its funny how one person's assesment can differ from anothers to such an extent. I'm fairly sure Argentina and Brazil will beat Germany and Holland and I'm also expecting Japan to bet ParaguayLaugh

holland is yet to reveal their true strength imo.

Just over 13 hours until people realise what a totally average side Holland are. Can see it being even bigger than 4-0, maybe 5-0 or 6-0 if they get an early goal...

Talk about a game of 2 half's. The Brazil team just fell to pieces in the second half.Hopefully now they will bring back the samba football.

Report Clarky9 July 2, 2010 5:45 PM BST
OK, Holland were definitely the better team once they equalised, but Brazil should have been 3-0 or 4-0 up in the first half. The turning point was the end of the 2nd half when Kaka's shot was tipped over brilliantly.

No excuses here.

I had £400 on Brazil at 2.06 for the match & £600 on them on the outright at prices ranging from 5/1 - 5/2

Funny old game...

Report tobermory July 2, 2010 5:55 PM BST
Don;t see how you can say they should have been 3 or 4 up because they had 3 or 4 chances .Just like saying Holland should have won 5-1 2nd half.

Thye were hardly putting on a masterclass at any point, though they were much the better in 1st half .
Report Clarky9 July 2, 2010 6:08 PM BST
Hardly putting on a master class?

1) Didn't you see the move that led to Kaka's shot?

2) Juan had a tap in from 6 yards and put it over

3) Robinho had a goal disallowed
Report SatelliteFlight July 2, 2010 6:12 PM BST
Robinho's goal was right to be disallowed!! When the first ball was played to Daniel Alves he was offside, the flag should of gone up then not when Robinho received it as he was not offside
Report shrewdbury July 2, 2010 6:12 PM BST
Dutch were starting to look ragged first half, I agree.

But they gave Brazil a masterclass in keeping their heads.
Report Clarky9 July 2, 2010 6:15 PM BST
Can't argue with that. Brazil were all over the place after the equaliser, but if they'd got the 2nd goal at the end of the first half, then it would have been all over.
