Once euro's come around you will see pretty much the same squad of players. Problem is there is not alot coming through.
Report checkAA_ June 28, 2010 2:17 PM BST
got to forget Euro,s and build a young team now imo
Report sickoflayinwinners June 28, 2010 2:52 PM BST
i think alan mullery  got it about right when pointing out the ages certain players will be in next big comp.the 30+s probably need to be ditched for  young bloods to come thru.woteveer does happen we must find   a couple of fast, ball playing centre halves.ive not really seen anything much of rodwell but if he  can play midfiels/centre half we must try to have him  take that ball playing centre half role, assuming hes gas good as the reports say he is.the days of slow coaches like john terry are gone.

Which playersfrom squad should carry on playing for england?

Sorry no comment, thought it said which players from squad should START playing for England?
Report treble June 28, 2010 3:15 PM BST
How many out of that list do you think truly have the potential to become world class.

Mind you saying that, do all players have to be world class to win a tourney. Greece in 2004 would suggest otherwise.
Report Live4 June 28, 2010 3:22 PM BST

may get some effort but that team looks rubbish
Report checkAA_ June 28, 2010 4:10 PM BST
i think the idea would be to build a "team" rather than pick individuals ....
i doubt Klose or podolski would get picked on club form but they are integral to the german team
Report Saluting Darren Lockyer June 28, 2010 4:13 PM BST
personally i think england are in for a desperate few years and qualification for the next few tournaments won't be a given anymore
Report Live4 June 28, 2010 4:19 PM BST
Won't be a given anymore?  Did we qualify for Euro 2008?  Did we qualify for World Cup 2004?

Never has been a given Dazza.
Report Saluting Darren Lockyer June 28, 2010 4:30 PM BST
er yes we did and nobody qualified for world cup 2004 or do you mean 1994
Report AgentS June 28, 2010 4:35 PM BST
Live4 - good list. I'd add Fabian Delph, Curtis Davies and Nathan Delfouneso to that list.
Report Live4 June 28, 2010 4:39 PM BST
Yeh I meant 94, fluck me was it that long ago?
Report Saluting Darren Lockyer June 28, 2010 4:42 PM BST
yes mate, graham taylor took us from world cup semi finalists to the edge of oblivion in a matter of years...............fuming at the time but looking back i find it all very funny now
Report kincsem June 28, 2010 5:12 PM BST
This is a good thread idea.

Aaron Lennon; Wayne Rooney; James Milner; Joe Hart.

The rest of dad's Army can leave.
Report kincsem June 28, 2010 5:15 PM BST
Forget about the Euros and the World Cup.  Get the team right.  If you get the team right you don't have to worry.  Qualification will happen, success will happen.
Report notwhatwho June 28, 2010 5:23 PM BST
why ashley cole?|

he was laughin his head off coming off that plane last night.
Report paddletoe June 28, 2010 5:31 PM BST
If Gareth Barry ever plays for England again i will be amazed. When England conceded their fourth goal he had a 10 yard start of the German winger and it was like watching Peter Reid trail after Maradona from the 86 World cup. Seen hearses move faster.
Report paddletoe June 28, 2010 5:36 PM BST
The best English born midfielder i have seen play over the past year has been Scott Parker by a country mile and yet he was not even in the squad. But then again he does not have the advantage of Frank Lampard and all the hype that surrounds him with Chelsea yet he has proven time and time again he is all smoke and mirrors.
Report G1_Jockey_4 June 28, 2010 6:33 PM BST
problem with parker is he needs a struggling club to make him look decent.
he could be tried at international level but imo is another who will struggle with the international scene.
Report jacob_TA June 28, 2010 7:10 PM BST
If parker needs a struggling team to make him look decent, surely he'd fit right into the England team then
Report buddeliea June 28, 2010 7:14 PM BST
Hart,A Cole,Rooney and Dawson would be the only ones from squad that i would keep.
Report tuthoops June 28, 2010 7:15 PM BST
we havent got any strikers -Roon and thats it.

Got of coffee needs to be smelt here imo.

from Irish Sports forum

David Blaine has got his lawyers checking out if he has lost his world record to Wayne Rooney, for spending 40 days in a box doing nothing
Report cricnut June 28, 2010 11:22 PM BST
are any of them likely to be any good live4, we need some world class players, not just average premiership players
Report asparagus June 29, 2010 12:27 AM BST
The team for 4 years time needs Jack Rodwell as it's central figure. He needs to be drafted into the squad and preferably the team immediately. Hart, Rooney, Lennon, Dawson, Milner and Ashley Cole from the current squad need to be kept in the squad. i'd also keep gerrard as he can still have something to offer centrally for the next Euro's. Gibbs, Wilshire, johnson can all become key squad members but somehow we need to unearth another striker to assist Rooney.
Report flyingkipper June 29, 2010 8:51 AM BST
I think we need a manager who can get the tactics right first and then someone who can man manage and motivate. The suggestion of playing Rooney up front on his own is madness, you cant win a WC with one striker. Need 4-3-3 like Brazil and the Argies play.
