Cameroon should have beaten them last time, whilst this talented Slovakia team beat the World champions...

Am I missing something?

U aint missing much clarky apart from a brain.  This is the world champions who did not win a game ? The toothless ageing Italians.  Dutch are a class apart and if the Slovaks attack in the mabber they did against the Italians this will be as many as the dutch want it to be.

Evens double Brazil and Holland is English Mustard my friend.
Report bexley June 27, 2010 11:52 PM BST
yes the blatantly obvious.

The Camerron game was virtually irrelevant for the Dutch and as for the World Champions did you actually watch them play this tournament?? Italy were dreadful, their defending appalling and prior to beating 'the mighty Azurri', Slovakia were made to look extremely average.

Not saying 1.5 is generous or a nailed on cert like some people on here might just that your points are misguided at best.

Dutch should win this but I won't be taking 1\2

This Dutch team are so average. Have watched all of their games and they haven't impressed me one bit. Only have one world class player (Robben) and he is half injured. They were poor against a bad Denmark team, scraped a win against a Japan team who gave them far too much respect and should have lost to a Cameroon side who didn't take their chances. You say the Dutch didn't care about the last game, then why did they play their first team?

Slovakia beat Italy, which will give them a lot of confidence.

Would you rather have £100 on Holland to win £50 or £100 on Slovakia to win £840?

It's a no brainer....

For the record, I have layed Holland for £200 & backed Slovakia for £50. Might double up tomorrow if Robben doesn't start.
Report jacob_TA June 28, 2010 12:50 AM BST
I take it you didn't see Slovakia against Paraguay when they registered 1 shot, or against New Zealand when they were really poor?
Report The Big O June 28, 2010 1:11 AM BST
You say Holland are poor but they have controlled the ball in each game they have played and been in complete control witout having to step it up yet.

Robben is the one who can step it up and if they do they will cut Slovakia to shreds.

jacob_TA:

compare the Slovak team starting eleven against Paraguay and against Italy - HUGE difference. against Italy the coach was messing around and let Kozak play (he doesn't even get a start in the romanian league)... against Italy he was replaced by Kucka who completely dominated the midfield. also Weiss junior was replaced by Jendrisek and it completely changed the way slovakia played.
Report Extractor June 28, 2010 9:26 AM BST
also Stoch didn't play against Paraguay... it was as if Slovakia used a half-reserve team

is this the same unimpressive Dutch team unbeaten in competative football over 90 minutes since before euro 2008 ?
Report Pesam June 28, 2010 10:18 AM BST
The Dutch are obvious favourites but the current price of 1.42 is laughable, they should be at least 1.55.
Report Clarky9 June 28, 2010 11:17 AM BST
Layed some more at 1.43, this is Christmas come early!

Who cares how Slovakia played in their first two games. Last time out they battered the World champions.

Last time out Holland were shocking against Cameroon and should have lost about 5-2! Controlled their games so far my @rse!

If I was pricing this up, then Holland would barely be odds on!
Report Pesam June 28, 2010 11:54 AM BST
It's certainly the "wrongest" price since the first round of matches although I'd say Netherlands should definitely be odd-on but 1.6-1.65 reflects fair value IMO.
Report Mardy Bum June 28, 2010 12:26 PM BST
pesam germanys price was the wrongest price in the entire wc so far.
Report Pesam June 28, 2010 12:41 PM BST
What price were England just prior to kick off Mardy? I noticed England were 2.68 a few hours before kick off which looked very short and was tempted to lay but because I wasn't going to be on-line during the game I didn't bet as I didn't want any open positions and I didn't have a strong feel about which direction the game would go.
Report Lady Margaret June 28, 2010 12:42 PM BST
Holland are a lay for me at the prices.

Think this will be tight -  maybe 1-1 after 90 mins then perhaps the first pen shoot-out of the tournament
Report Mardy Bum June 28, 2010 12:46 PM BST
Thats what they went off at.  I had my patriotic stupid bet even though i knew that we wernt the favs.  I did redeem myself with a back of unquotyed at 3.3 just as Lamps was taking the free Kick @ 3-1.  I do think holland are short im going to lay and back the ducth in the second half i think.
Report bexley June 28, 2010 12:47 PM BST
Price is too short now I agree, however I don't think its in the 'Xmas come early' category. If you are basing your lays purely on the Holland v Cameroon and Slovakia v Italy performances then I can see your confidence, I'd call it over-confidence. Good luck neverthelessCool
Report SatelliteFlight June 28, 2010 12:53 PM BST
Clarky you say if you where pricing it up Holland would barely be odds on Shocked so what price do you make them?? 1.8?? now that would be Christmas come early!!!! [;)]
Report Pesam June 28, 2010 12:59 PM BST
Good save on the unquoted Mardy, but yeah England were never 2.68 shots.

Back to today's game I'm not convinced that The Dutch defence and defensive midfielders are anything special. Van Perie and Sneijder apart I don't see enough creativity either to go much further in the tournament (although they've got an obvious chance to progress today).

The Slovaks are decent and if they keep the same line-up (bar the enforced change for the suspension) as they did against Italy I can see the Slovaks going through today IF they score first.
Report SatelliteFlight June 28, 2010 1:02 PM BST
Robben has been known to create a chance or 2 on occasion Plain
Report Mardy Bum June 28, 2010 1:06 PM BST

Report Pesam June 28, 2010 1:17 PM BST
True Satellite but Robben hasn't featured much and rumour has it (hopefully for us Netherland layers) he won't start today either.
Report Mardy Bum June 28, 2010 1:21 PM BST
him not starting will alone cause a drift in price i think and even if he does start unliely to be sharp.
Report SatelliteFlight June 28, 2010 1:22 PM BST
rumour has he will start now lads, Van Der Vaart supposedly has a calf strain and Robben will take his place [;)]

italy created multiple chances against slovakia , i think holland have some outstanding strikers and their ability to go up a gear which i believe they can do will prove more than decisive in this game

Report Pesam June 28, 2010 2:10 PM BST
IF Robben is fully fit then that's probably a good swap for the Dutch as VDV has been quite peripheral so far but Robben's MATCH fitness is unlikely to be great and the balance of the midfield could be jeopardised. I still reckon the Dutch are too low at 1.43.
Report Clarky9 June 28, 2010 2:15 PM BST
'outstanding strikers' - had to laugh at that one.

Don't get me wrong, I like RVP, he's one of my favourite players (& I support Manchester United), but he's not in the same class as Villa, Torres or Drogba....

Apart from that you have Huntelaar who doesn't get a game at AC Milan & Dirk Kuyt who is so so average.

They may sneak a 1-0 win, but at the prices I'm prepared to take that chance...
