With the incident happening just before half time would it have been within the rules for Germany to concede play to England at the start of the second half and allow England to walk the ball into their net.

I know there are mistakes in many games resulting in wrongly allowed goals to stand and good goals which are disallowed. But todays incident was totally different and not down to interpretation or a referees judgement.

What a gesture it would have been by Germany. Not many people will remember todays game in 30 years time but such a gesture of sportsmanship from Germany would have been always remembered in football history.

Or am i just a romantic dreamer!

What made you thought it was a sport? Football has been a business for years now. Why else for example do refs try and get the penalty shoot-outs over and done as quickly as possible when  virtually every save made the keeper clearly breaks the rules?
Need to get the ads on quick don`t want delays, connection with tv companies is obvious, but your 100% right it would have made football proud for once had the Germans done that. The the only example I`ve seen that comes anywhere close to this was when Dicanio I believe it was caught the ball instead of heading towards the goal when the opponents keeper was laying injured on the ground outside the penalty box.

You do realise that most professional footballers (including the little Iglunders) would toss their own grandad's salad for a free kick on the edge of the area. What makes you think this would ever happen?

Should England not have done likewise in 1966?

the tournament became a bit of a joke today with both the england and mexico goals being disallowed when they were both legit.

Allowing England to walk the ball into the net would have been too risky - a German would need to have guided them there to make sure it got in

One thought, do you think Englishmen and England players will still refer to South Africa 2010 and the injustice of losing to a bad linesman's call in 2056. I doubt it. In both games the best team won.
