best price on this is 33/1

although there are loads of contenders for this award, he does seem a decent price in a team sure to catch the eye.

other players at a best price of 33/1 are Fabiano, Van Persie, Robinho and Iniesta so I suppose you make a case for them equally too.

but with all the hype about Sneijder he seems value, anyone else think this is worth a bet ?

Xavi best price 16s
Report christrinder June 11, 2010 3:26 AM BST
I think Sneijder is great value - I've backed him at 40-1 at WillHill, my bet of the tournament (price still availble). I think they are going to regret offering this price.

I supect there are realistically only max. 16 players who can win this award and I'd make him one of the leading contenders.
Report the istabraq years June 11, 2010 10:44 AM BST
Ive backed 3

Xavi 16-1

Kaka 16-1

Snjieder 33-1

All 3 are there teams playmakers and pull the strings, im hopeful i ll get a run for my money.

Report tobermory July 6, 2010 11:42 PM BST
I think they actually decide it before the final oddly enough though
Report christrinder July 6, 2010 11:54 PM BST
As you can imagine, I'm taking quite an interest in this :)

The rules says

'The adidas Golden Ball will go to the competition’s best player. FIFA will announce a shortlist on 9 July. Thereafter, members of the media can vote for the winner until the end of the Final through the FIFA Media Channel.'

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/awards/index.html

I suspect that most will vote before the final as they proabably will want to be concentrating on the match itself during the final. However, as you can see, they will be able to vote until the end of the final.
Report nedned July 7, 2010 12:04 AM BST
Think it deserves to go to a German myself - Schweinsteiger, Ozil or Muller. But I stuck a few quid on Sneijder @ 40/1 before a ball was kicked so hopefully the good "members of the media" can do me a favour
Report nedned July 7, 2010 12:05 AM BST
In fact, christrinder, it was after seeing your post re the price Hills were offering that I paid them a visit ... so if it comes up, I owe you one!
Report federalski July 7, 2010 9:36 AM BST
You have a good chance with Wesley.

one of :

Muller
Klose
Villa
Forlan
Sneijder
Sergio Ramos &
Lahm

for me.
Report federalski July 7, 2010 9:38 AM BST
And Schweinsteiger

Oops.
Report Clarky9 July 7, 2010 10:00 AM BST
I backed Messi & Gerrard for this, so I'm obviously a neutral now...

I think you're weighed in on Sneijder. The final won't have a bearing on the result of this, as the votes will be in before. Zidane was 1.25 to win it during the final, assaulted a fellow professional, causing a drift to 12s, but still won it because of votes already cast in 2006...
Report thedemps July 7, 2010 10:18 AM BST
Who votes?

Report trickynic123 July 7, 2010 1:45 PM BST
I've backed ozil @ 150/1 if he puts in a performance tonight and germany go through he'll have an outstanding chance
Report Can't Catch Me July 7, 2010 3:41 PM BST
Great shout.

Unfortunately the fact voting goes to the end will probably see the winning team's star player be the answer, which will probably be Villa.

But think its a 2 horse race between WS and Villa now.
Report db1974 July 7, 2010 3:45 PM BST
Are you sure about that CCM - Zidane got it LTO because the award was voted on before the final
Report thedemps July 7, 2010 4:38 PM BST
Who votes and until when.  Seems lots of us have bet on this but nobody knows how it will be decided.  is it a panel of bookmakers?

my dad put this bet on for me at billyhills, it was supposed to be Sneider @ 40's to win golden boot, he wrote snieder world cup 40-1, i got the slip back as 100-1.  £5 each way obviously it's been changed to Golden Boot - not sure if I should be happy?

sorry I mean golden ball @ 40's

Wonder if Bet365 know something the rest of us don't. They're currently showing 9/4 on Iniesta & 7/2 on Villa - everywhere else is 9s or 10s on Iniesta, and 13/8 on Villa
Report Clarky9 July 7, 2010 11:28 PM BST
I've taken 2/1 Wesley & 7/2 Villa

2 horse race
Report tobermory July 7, 2010 11:37 PM BST
^

seems like a good 8/11 Bet tbh

Only an early goal from Robben could threaten that i'd say.
Report Graham Vs Green July 7, 2010 11:53 PM BST
As nedned has pointed out, Bet365 very strange Iniesta 9/4 & Villa 7/2.

Both Iniesta & Xavi have had two FIFA MOM & Villa 1.  Schneider has 4.

Previous winners (1-2-3) are:

1986 Mexico     Diego Maradona          Harald Schumacher     Preben Elkjær
1990 Italy     Salvatore Schillaci  Lothar Matthäus     Diego Maradona
1994 USA     Romário          Roberto Baggio     Hristo Stoichkov
1998 France     Ronaldo          Davor Šuker     Lilian Thuram
2002 Kor/Japan     Oliver Kahn          Ronaldo             Hong Myung-Bo
2006 Germany     Zinedine Zidane      Fabio Cannavaro     Andrea Pirlo

Great tip from the OP, but I'm gonna have a nibble on Villa.

365 are mugs, iniesta has no chance. agree its a 2 dog race, villa or sneider. unless something odd happens in the final like a keeper saving 3 penalties.

the final is irrelevant
Report nedned July 8, 2010 5:21 PM BST
I reckon someone is getting a bollocking over at Bet365 this evening. Obviously realised their mistake and have gone 7/4 Villa & 13/2 Iniesta similar to everyone else
Report ashleigh July 8, 2010 5:32 PM BST
have backed sneijder at 40/1 and villa at 14/1, as you cant lay off on here does anybody think i should have some covering bets, thinking of backing xavi any others?

Xavi must be in with a chance i would think, and a good final with Spain winning would see him go very close imo
