not winning the world cup that I am even doing a promotion on my website giving customers their money back on orders if England should win the world cup.

I am not going to mention my website address but I am just stating how confident I am about England being overrated again.

It doesn't matter what manager they have, they haven't got enough quality players, they haven't got enough technical abilty and they are just not good enough as a team.

I wouldn't touch them at 20/1 let alone the 7/1 on here. Definite lay material.

Every year we have the same old song, we are gonna win the world cup, come on you three lions, we have the best team in years, the best chance since 1966! When it's all over it will be the same old story, the manager wasn't good enough, the tactics were terrible, the Argies cheated us out of it.

Just admit that the players aren't good enough and be done.

Truth be known England aren't the best team in the competition. They also happen to represent horrific value at their current price. However, in their favour, in my belief, is a top-class manager who holds little or no regard for reputation and a relatively strong squad of players. It's a fact that the best teams don't always win the World Cup, in fact, looking at past tournaments, I would suggest that (approximately) only 75% of the time the very best team (perceived at least) has won. I haven't backed England this time around (I confess to having done so four years ago) and I wouldn't go near them unless they were to drift to twice their current price; highly unlikely. All that said, write them off at your peril imv...

You wouldn't touch England at 20/1?

You're an idiot then mate.

With the peachiest draw imaginable we'll walk to the Semi's.

Don't think we'll win, but the 7/1 will look good when we're in the last 4.

England are easy to back at the minute, with a view to laying off in the latter stages.

You England haters are priceless.

Why do you have to hate England to think they are not going to win the WC??
i dont hate England, but i would not back them at 20 either. Why bet on something if you dont think its going to happen???

I don't think England will win it, but if you wouldn't take 20/1 then you shouldn't be gambling.

The group is pish poor, then it's one from Germany, Serbia, Ghana in the last 16. - No problem

At the quarters your looking at France, Argentina, Mexico, Greece. - Not particularly worried by that lot.

I'd fancy Spain and Brazil to knock us out, no one else are substantially better than England.

The England haters are keen to rubbish our chances without stating anyone who is better than us, other than the first 2 in the market

England will get out of their group as you would expect from a top ten team.  That does not mean they are closer to winning.

They are one of a group of nine teams, 7 European, 2 South American, that could win.

Those stats about European teams not winning outside Europe are horse manure.

Well, that would make them closer to winning it as the field is cut from 32 to 16 straight away.

England will stroll to the last 8, another step closer to winning it.

You have to fancy them ahead of the other teams on our side of the draw. Argentina with Maradona as manager. Can't win it. It's like us having Gascoigne as manager, he picks Veron and Gutierrez! He hasn't even put Cambiasso and Zanetti in the squad, they were vital for Inter in the Champions League. Riquelme refuses to play for him. Messi has never reproduced his Barcelona form at International level.

France have got a clueless manager, no Benzema? Stumbled through the qualifiers. Henry a shade of the player he was. They won't win it, I would back them in any individual match in the tournament.

A distinctly average German team have lost their best player. Do not underestimate the absence of the talismanic Ballack - 98 caps, 42 goals.

I don't think we will win it, but to say you wouldn't take 20/1 on England given their pish poor group and the absence of any real class team on our side of the draw is absurd.

England at 20/1 would be finding money no doubt

I am very disappointed at the last two results for england. friendlies maybe, last one away from home, lots of subs, players being tried out, still tired from the prem? but still, apart from some serious luck we would be looking at a draw and a loss..... not exactly a world cup winning start is it? I can see progress from the group but remember germany are 1.95 to win their group and if they don't and we win ours, then we play them! however weak they may be, their past record at world cups when not expected to do well is clear to see. and that may just be the second round! looking at their last two games, England are a massive LAY at 7/1. I only wish I had more money in my account to lay them with! I would love them to win with all my heart but the head says not on your life sunny jim!

Yeah, but, no, but.  None of the contenders will be eliminated before the knockout stages.  Of course if Brazil, Germany, Spain, Italy don't make it through the group stages then of course England are closer to winning.

Timmysgirl - keep the faith Comrade.

We'll do alright.

The problem with England is the over reaction to every result.

The in-ger-land idiots, have 8 pints of Fosters, stick a St George on their German made car and tell everyone who will listen that this is our year.

The England haters, go well over the top aswell.

The truth lies somewhere in between, we're a good team with an excellent manager, and deserve our place as 3rd favourites.

Germany? Don't worry about them, we've got a better defence, a better midfield and a better manager than that mob. Plus they've lost their best player.

Personally, I wouldn't lay England now. We'll stroll through the group and will beat one of the no-marks comfortably, there will be an over reaction and the bookies will shave a point or 2 off the price because they can. Which will translate to the exchanges.

But it's your dough, do as you see fit.

Our so called better defence looked almightily dodgy against Japan the other day. Admitedly it was a friendly but I just don't see the quality in the team. The strongest tournament in the world (the champions league) has much fewer English players than Brazilian and French players and historically the winner of the world cup tends to have the most players.

I just cannot see it happening. Laying at 8 is better money than I would get in the bank

if we werent confident of beating one of germany serbia or australia: one of which havent been good for years and two of which arent exactly world powers

then we shouldnt be there at all.. id bet the germans are confident of beating almost anyone and as i said they havent been good for years.. dont mention 2002 they had the easiest run of any team to a world cup final ever. usa turkey and south korea or something ridiculous? even england wouldnt f that up with pens or something

I guess it always helps when you have a clod for a keeper. Whilst England are not the worst team in the world they were made to look pretty poor last night.

Someone posted last night during the match that they should bring on Lampard. I have to look at the teamsheet to make sure he was on the field he was that anonymous. Carragher was might slow, SWP was piss poor, Rooney didn't seem to have a good game and whilst Heskey over all had a good game, as a striker he should have buried the chance when he was one on one with the keeper.

England were shown up to be what they are, an average team with one or two good players.

F**ckin taters! Put your admirable bias to one side for a moment. Do you honestly think England would beat Spain or Brazil? I couldn't believe it when I saw England a shorter price than Brazil in my local Lad Brokes ffs!
England remind me of Tim Henman, obvious ability but not enough bottle. When they scored after 4 mins last night didn't you just know they would sh!t themselves for the rest of the game?

ttt for liam.

the bookie guy had it spot on,our players maybe generally "good" but we lack technically(the algerians had way more ball skill)

the times the krauts cooly played the ball out of their own box and the speed they open our defence up on maybe 6 occasions was woeful and embarrassing to watch.

well done germany
