How about creating a thread of people's opinions on the chances of each side.

Keep it serious...with a touch of humour folks. And hey, stay away from those stereotypes.

I think Germany are quite long.

Why?
Even though they lack quality, they have a competitive league with a high proportion of players at top clubs, homegrown. Therefore strength in depth.

Bundesliga paly with the Official ball of the World Cup that apparently England have been moaning about.

Worth a punt to reach the semi-finals in my opinion.

Agree with Basil to a certain extent. Could make the semi's. There are worse back-to-lays in the comp.
Report Cauthenmeister May 24, 2010 10:55 PM BST
Reckon they are in toughest overall group.

good in a battle, not good in a war and dont like four by twos.
Report Lix May 25, 2010 12:56 AM BST
quite tempted by the 7/2 on them not getting out their group.
Report johnnyrant May 25, 2010 10:11 AM BST
If Essien is fit for Ghana, I see Germany struggling to get out of group.

They lack a goalscorer / target man.  Klose is past his "use by" date.  Most of the winners have a hero who often emerges during the World Cup.  I can't see who in the German squad will blossom this summer.

Although I can't see England winning it Rooney is a possible superhero.

1970 Jairzinho
1974 Muller
1978 Kempes
1982 Rossi
1986 Maradona / Lineker
1990 Klinsman
1994 Romario
1998 Batistuta / Suker
2002 Ronaldo / Klose
2006 Klose

The "Rolls Royce" of soccer. They will get through their group no problems

think they will win their group

great foward in thomas muller, good bet for the top goalscorer
Report Spencer4. May 26, 2010 2:39 PM BST
Defence is poor, midfield falling apart (they lost another player this week), attack is unlikely to save them.

As has been said, they'll do well to get out of the group.
Report madness69 May 26, 2010 2:47 PM BST
Muller is not that great.. He has talent, but so far unconvincing finishing in big occasions, he missed chance after chance in latter stages of Champions League.
Report BenWeasel May 26, 2010 2:56 PM BST
the worst of germany is the coach. the players are quite ok probably too young and unexperienced. i guess in 2014, the germans will be really strong. for this worldcup, it is tough to tell.....

Germany win group then face USA or England ...they progress

Now its Argentina ...hmmm....but hey can win on penalties

So now its Spain or Italy ...two bottling teams in the world cup

The Final !   Lay off yer bet .

oh and nominate Germany in the final ...with Brazil France or Nederlands great bets

Don't underestimate the absence of Michael Ballack.

98 Germany caps, 42 goals.

Ozil is meant to be a tasty player, but he can't possibly fill the boots of the talismanic Ballack.

I usually like the German sides, but I aint having them this year.

time to lay off

Great stuff reading this thread cos I'd not seen it before.

And some of the predictions are great, you should be proud of yourselves Rasil Basil, Panther65, RaspberryBottom and Aussie Punter!  I took 16 during their game against Australia then had a little fiddle with Argentina, glad they met!

Anyway, I wanted to ask, Germany have been the most consistent team for me in profits this World Cup but I'm wondering is perhaps now time to lay?

Ha, great thread.
Report Can't Catch Me July 5, 2010 3:09 PM BST
Excellent thread. I think anyone on Germany at fancy prices would be mad not to lay some off now.
Report Jay of the Pleased (?) Women July 5, 2010 3:22 PM BST
I think that's a good idea.  Wish I was talking large amounts lol.  I'm greened up anyway but I think I need to ask the question that would I be willing to put the X amount at stake just to back Germany?  Essentially that's what we're doing now if we don't green up a bit more, isn't it?
Report Can't Catch Me July 5, 2010 3:29 PM BST
Exactly. And the fact they are playing the pre-tournament favourites and a team that are virtually unbeatable if on song.
Report Jay of the Pleased (?) Women July 5, 2010 3:34 PM BST
And let us not forget Germany's habit of progressing so far only to come undone at the last.

Honestly, no parallel intended there but thought I'd address it before anyone else :-)

I'd like to see them win it.
