I can see all of those falling over...
South Africa really are poor. I know France have issues with their manager, and struggled in qualifying, but just take a look at the squad. They'll step up to the plate. It's not the early 20th century so Uruguay will do ... nothing. Greece can qualify. Nigeria were awful at ACON, and Greece play the Argies last, by which time they could both already be through, or Maradona could put out some team consisting of Newcastle players gifting Greece a 0-0. Italy & Paraguay NAP from group F. Italy guaranteed to play crap and get through. Paraguay's qualifying was impressive and they have some decent firepower. You're underestimating either England or the USA if you think Algeria will get through. USA beat Spain and played brazil off the pitch for 45mins in last years Confed Cup. |

i havent gone in big on this, but thanks for your opinions anyway. i do strongly disagree with you about the USA though. they lumbered through a very easy qualifying group, and you can hardly take spain's and brazil's performance seriously in a pre-season semi-friendly tournament. algeria look the best value imo.

Brazil and Spain both beat England comprehensively in friendlies.
England outclassed Egypt (ok, just in the second half) who are a good proxy for Algeria (closely matched in their qualifying group and playoff) Ergo there's a tentative argument using England as the form line to say that it's worth taking note of the confederations cup results. Algeria beating Ivory Coast in ACON does support your bet however. And Africa is "home soil" What are your thoughts on Group B? I'm leaning towards Greece qualifying along witb Argentina. |

Greece will of course need to overcome their record of never scoring at the finals but you are correct that Nigeria do look very poor on recent form.
