Carrick is a more effective player than Gerard.
He controls the pace of a game better, is a better passer etc.. Carrick is in good form, Gerard is not. Carrick is used to being part of an ambitious successful team. The myth that Gerard is world class is another myth like Torres being the best striker in the world that Pool fans like to believe. Explain how you believe in facts how Carrick is not a more effective player than Gerrard. Gerrard was abysmal at the last world cup. During qualifiers he has been average. Where is this world class player you talk about? Maybe you have mixed him up with Alonso who is a genuine world class player. Funny how Pool have gone downhill since he left. Surely with the main man in midfield still, they shouldn't have gone downhill that much, but they have. |

The fact is that Liverpool have been utter gash for the last few years and the hype of Gerrad carry's on..... other players don't get the chance, because they are celebrity's nowadays footballers (sponsorship deals worth £m)...it wouldn't be good for the manager to drop them.mainly about sponsorship .... look at the players that play constantly well week in week out with little or no sponcership but work there goolys off on the pitch... look at the foreign players playing over here ,you do not see any of the top so called English players going to Italy,Spain,Portugal because they are technically inferior to these players from these country's including Brasil ...I watch Brasilian football and most of the players here not even in the National team would play at the highest level in Europe that is why more and more are now starting to get dual nationalities to play in europe.

most ridiculous thread I've ever read. Get rid of your pathetic club bias. Any tiny chance Eng have of winning the WC will be with Gerrard playing in the team. He could play full back, central midfield, forward playing in the hole or wide midfield, and be the stand out player in any of these positions. He would be best deployed in central midfield or in the hole, but that is another story that is the biggest pile of horse manure ive ever read.. the two men who know more about his abilities than any of us on here, capello and benitez trust him with nothing in the centre of midfield.. and at international level and the highest level of club football, he isnt clever enough to play in the hole. thats why he constantly comes up v short against the best sides in england and in europe.. gerrard wouldnt be the best player at his club side in almost any position and as for england? he hasnt had a good game for his country for a long long time. prob 5 years, not for an alleged world class player who supposedly has so much impact. its nothing to do with him being a liverpool player but talking over rated players like him up is stupid. id rather have four carricks or barrys in my midfield than four gerrards. |

Although Gerrard has had a poor season, he is one of 3 players in the England squad that can win a game on his own. His current form has been patchy to say the least but like any world class player he can pull something special out of the bag.

One player that I'am impressed with of late is this lad Bale very good left foot,very quick,good athlete and would be in my squad for sure,now that G Barry is a doubt.
But still would not take Gerrard ...but Capello hasn't the balls because of sponsers not to take him....but who would be in his place. |
