I've bet these while back - they have conditions to suit in Africa - prob the most talented group of players from europe to go down there, RAW ABILITY IS SCARY.

pitch conditions =ground like a rock - will suit the serbs big time - will be able to keep control of the ball - you will see they will have about 65-70% poss in all there games down there...

dont worry about what you saw from them in their friendly games - THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THESE GAMES PERIOD - JUST GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS REALLY.

These guys are lot more experienced this time around and could get to the semi final with a bit of luck.

Tear into them

like to see them in with germany or italy - crunch..

very talented bunch, but squad has no depth. If injury free they can beat anybody. I really admire Antic's style as well. It is fearless

Agree in most part - would not need three or four fellas to go down - but turks should have made the euro final with seven men out against a useless german side....

Poor keeper, good defence, average midfield and poor strikers... France with 10 men played better than them in Belgrad, and we all know that France are sh*t. Germany and Ghana ll qualify easily from this group.
Report dk1986 December 4, 2009 11:49 PM GMT
Can't say I'm in the pro Serbia camp. They statistically had the world's best defence going into Germany '06, then were beaten by Netherlands, got drubbed by Argentina 6-0, and lost to the Ivorians.

They had 'Montenegro' then as well. Also-rans if you ask me. :|

Krasic will be player of the tournament. This boy will be one of the best player in world football, and will probably move to a very big club in Europe after the tournament.

ok average midfield ? is this a joke - they have the best midfield in the world

serbia only needed a draw against france and they never pushed the boat out that night - played alright - only thing in the back of my mind is big match temperant - if they get their heads sorted out ...could get semis for a big trade

Serbia are a great team and i agree with the guy above me.

In Miralem Pjanic they have a very talented player who at 18 years old could go on to be one of the stars of the tournament.Been very impressive in his Lyon starts so far.Controls games at his age.Serbia have improved dramitically since splitting from Montenegro, and no surprise if they serve it up to a few so called bigger teams.
Report fayrstar December 8, 2009 5:42 PM GMT
kerrygold while i agree that they have great ability and could show glimmers of brillliance i cant for the life of me see where you get they have best midfield in the world. Just of top of head spains is a lot better for me and im sure there are more teams in international football with better midfields

I hope for you tho that they give you a real run for your money but i think it will take a real effort just to get out of group. Good luck tho

Pjanic is Bosnian not Serbian right?
Report vichy December 8, 2009 6:30 PM GMT
They do not have a chance. They are big time bottlers. Always show up well in qualifying round and flop in finals. LAY LAY LAY!

along with previous names mentioned, subotovic (defender young lad from dortmund wenger rates), stankovic, kacar (highly rated youngster at hertha), zigic and the lad from s liege jovanovic that caused arsenal problems in first leg till taken off injured.Plenty of depth. Unbelievaable value at 75 here to trade quarters minimum. 80 at bet 365
Report kimochi December 9, 2009 8:42 PM GMT
serbia were bigged up massively in 2006 and flopped. they are better now, but their price is about right. the france game was an eye-opener, as they had nothing against ten men and should really have lost. was all over the 150/1 a few months back, but wouldn't touch them at 75 given they have a fairly tough group. better value out there.
Report Kerrygold December 10, 2009 12:03 AM GMT
as i said a good trade - litte biased as i've bet them to win well into 6 figs but i am really only worried about how they handle pressure - and maybe back four need to not give away so much room on effing corners etc

well in wc06 - they were fancied but i dismissed them as they were going into the tournamet cold - did not play much at all in the 3 months leading up to it - i was proved right as they were second best to every ball.... this time round ..could do something

actually if they played england on sunday at neutral ground they would beat eng 2 or 3-1 eased down..thats how much i rate these guys

lets see what happens lads, there is a lot of teams like france, italy ,germany, holland, argentina who will struggle i think and their price is pretty short - these teams all have pretty large weaknesses - not going to go into it right now

australia will qualify ahead of serbia. serbia will not beat australia. australia are great value to make final 16. the australians make up lack of class with tremendous work rate. serbian players are inconsistent in tournaments. they are similar to croatia. they fire themselves up for matches against the bigger nations and then go through the motions against countries like australia. they think this will be enough to beat such countries. also the attitude of the serbian player is questionable. the better player always give you the impression that its up to the lesser players to do work. the only problem with this is they all think they are in the category of world class. i've no doubt that skill wise they are world class.

agree wih d krtitic - serbia will not bea australia. as has been menioned a few times, the slavic temperament does not lend itself o winning tournaments. would back them agains germany and lay against aussies and ghana
