id say 1/8 to get thru the group stage some thing like 1/2 in the last 16 , something similar in 1/4s maybe evens in semis and about 6/4 ish in final so all in about11/1 ish or am i way out of line. how would u price it.

9/1 is a fair price imo. Some berk will be on in a minute saying 1000000/1,probably an irish
Report sickoflayinwinners December 5, 2009 4:02 PM GMT
i wouldnt take u to task on your 9/1 quote m8. as un say fools will say they shouild be 50s and some wil be daft enuff to say 5s is great value.
Report mehmet j mook December 5, 2009 4:10 PM GMT
id say they are guarenteed to make the quarters and once they get there you should be able to lay them. Ive been backing spain for about a year now so hopefully 1 of them or england will win!
Report madsimon December 5, 2009 4:13 PM GMT
i would make them evens for a final -only playing against brazil or spain will they be not favourites (and then only slightly against)
Report mehmet j mook December 5, 2009 4:17 PM GMT
id say 6/4 if they play spain in the final
Report madsimon December 5, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
yes but on average evens -they might end up playing somebody else!!
Report Lieutenant Bravado December 5, 2009 4:40 PM GMT
I would go 1/2 in 16s, evens in the 1/4s, and 6/4 in both semi and final, pricing them up at 16s would be fair imo
Report sickoflayinwinners December 5, 2009 4:46 PM GMT
i find it hard to make em 6/4 twice as that would suggest them playing spain and brazil
Report sickoflayinwinners December 5, 2009 4:47 PM GMT
o0f course its feasable that they face tougher teams in the 16s and 1/4s than the semis and final.
Report BigBucks December 5, 2009 5:59 PM GMT
i think 12s would be a fair price
Report Discipline87 December 5, 2009 9:09 PM GMT
so you are all laying them with your bank then at this price

Should not be shorter then Spain, Brazil or France imo. Not enough depth in terms of decent goalkeepers or strikers sadly...
Report Newmanix December 8, 2009 12:22 AM GMT
Realistic price would be 999/1. Italian managed teams get mugged!!!
Guess where Im from?
Report sickoflayinwinners December 8, 2009 5:57 PM GMT
i can see where u r coming from with brazil n spain but i think its a bit strong to say franc e should be shorter .france have only gort there buy the skin of heir teeth, id go as far as to say its really hjard to see them doing much at all.
Report Anyska December 8, 2009 6:39 PM GMT
france wont come out of the group. nap. they will have 12 men playing against them for the first few games.
Report Anyska December 8, 2009 6:43 PM GMT
gladly lay them at 8/1. i nearly choked when i seen 6/1

Have to be 10/1. Can't have Italy and Germany behind us in the betting.
Hard to go wrong laying england (unfortunately) in majority of sporting events.

We should be 3rd fav's imo. Spain and Brazil the obvious favs but after that I'd make us favourites against anyone else. We're also in one of the weakest groups. Correct odds probably something like 9/1.
Report Jim Hensen December 10, 2009 12:05 AM GMT
12/1 maybe a little less considering we are likely to have a few injuries come that time and if they are in key positions with ittle decent cover we are fecked.

well, as england are one of the best 4 countries in the world at present, about 6/1
Report vichy December 10, 2009 3:05 PM GMT
England r a huge lay. There will be thousands of punters on here backing them thru sentiment rather than sense. They are too dependent on 1 striker, ROONEY. He is the lynchpin to whatever happens. Of course, they could win the world cup, but you could make just as good a case for about a dozen teams. In terms of betting you have to look at probability. Which country has depth in squad so that they could still be lively contenders even if they lose 2 or 3 vital players. For example Spain without Torres would still be several points ahead of an England without Rooney. Liverpool were warned even before the season started that they were too dependent on too few players. Take your lead from this. If punting is an art form which can still be thrown by circumstances, then with all of the available data ENGLAND ARE A HUGE LAY AT THE MOMENT.Have you all lost your senses. The CAPELLO magic factor is being too heavily weighed. Take a look at what a German inspired Bayern Munich did to one of Italy's finest teams. You should bracket England with Germany at best. Believe me, as easy as the group is England will still struggle to get through as the pressure from English Media will get to them. They are a definite lay. If you are a punter because you are shrewd never let sentiment rule your heart. If England were from a small yard as they call them in horsie or doggy circles they would be at best 20/1. I have been laying England since 2008 and it is all your silly money which will pay for my round the world cruise in 2011

Report kincsem December 11, 2009 12:26 PM GMT
25/1. They have seldom gone beyond the last eight. 1990 was the exception, and then they had a world class goalscorer (an actual world class, not claimed world class: Gerrard; Rooney; Beckham).
Report vichy December 11, 2009 6:52 PM GMT
Sorry win only I think you are exactly an example of the punter who is a danger to themselves. Your post is tinged with emotion rather than sense. If you are a patriot post England at 7 or better and I will give you all that you want up to 100k. Intelligence means that you look to exploit what emotional punters like you are prepared to sacrifice and what the intelligent market gages is the current fair value to achieve a profit.

Seems right to me. At best I'd make us joint 5th favourites alongside Holland, Argentina and France.

why are people who fancy england classed as sentimental fools...i didnt fancy them in the last world cup and i didnt have a bean on them...i actually backed the italians for months and months as i thought they were the best side of an average bunch...

this time around i think england have as good a chance if not better than most, of doing well, so, yes, i will be backing them, but its not through sentiment...its because i think they have a realistic chance of winning the bl00dy thing for once...and that is mainly down to capello...

16/1 would be my price and even then I'd be thinking the punters were being **ed, come on how can we win the thing, we have far too many average/over-rated players in our team.
Report kimochi December 19, 2009 9:47 PM GMT
england price is about right. we have a decent squad, a soft draw, and arguably the best coach in the competition. the price reflects that, it's not as if we have hoddle or keegan in charge. it's a short competition, the margins are fine, and a top-notch coach can get any side in the mix. capello is a big-game manager, i can only hope we get well-beaten in some of the cacky pre-tournament friendlies then i may be able to get a decent price.
