I normally wouldnt back an Englishman for anything but fancy the football team for the WC along with Spain...

Motty says they can win it :)

Im convinced the Cup will be staying in Europe with Italy unlikely to win it again, that leaves only Holland,Germany and Portugal none of which I fancy so by process of elimination it has got to be England or Spain.

Semis they should be in anything else is major disappointment with their draw.

Last 16: 2nd from Germany's group
Last 8: France/Nigeria

If you go by last WC, England were 15/2 after the draw.

This time easy group, better side of draw, top manager,10c weather.

Defence aint good enough-no confidence in whoever plays in goal, that will be our achilles heel when it comes to the big games i'm afraid.

what I find extraordinary is the way people seem to forget the way England stumble and bumble through almost every major tournament before exiting in glorious defeat. Outside of these islands, the World has a more balanced view of England's chances and I would think a broader view of the World game in general. Can England win the World Cup ? Yes certainly. But it always reminds me of the following exchange between Owen Glendower and Hotspur :

OG : "i can summon spirits from the vasty deep"
H : "Why, so can i and so can any man, but will they come when you do call them."

well its the best manager we have had in a long while, he won't let them do anything, they shouldn't but his two defeats have come against Brazil and Spain, who are better than us and as already stated on this thread, the goalkeeping problem is a big one.
Report madsimon December 5, 2009 10:20 AM GMT
I think we need to crush the teams in our group to send a message to brazil and spain that we are better than then-I hope we don't go easy on the yanks especially 0-we need to beat them easily

I think we are a Monster lay. Couldn't have England on my mind unfortunately!
Report mr_sykes December 6, 2009 7:29 PM GMT
what price would you get in foreign countries about England if people dont fancy them?only 5 or 6/1 here,ya'd hardly get 8s or 9s abroad??
