A Swedish wheelchair curler has been ruled out of competition at the Paralympic Games and faces a two-year ban for taking a prohibited substance.
Glenn Ikonen, 54, failed a drug test, and told the Vancouver Sun he did not realise his high blood pressure medication metoprolol was on the banned substances list.
"I wasn't trying to hide anything," Ikonen said.
"Before I left Sweden I told my doctor I didn't want to take anything that would not be approved. Of course I'm disappointed that he didn't know. I trusted my doctor.
"I would never take anything that I thought was illegal for sports."
He faces an automatic two year ban, which is subject to review at an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) hearing.
Swedish skipper Jalle Jungnell said Ikonen had been withdrawn from the team for the rest of the Games.
"Of course we were totally shocked and sorry for Glenn who played so well for us in the round robin," Jungnell said.
"He felt he had done everything right about the medication."
Ikonen is the first athlete to fail a drug test at the Vancouver Games.
The IPC said it would comment on the issue once the hearing had been held.
