What a sad thing to see - the 7/4 fav being eased down for a six timer and a $300,000+ purse, only to break down in the shadow of the post.

It's like the Damon Runyon story of the guy who wanted to get his ex wife back by buying a her a $1 million jade necklace, but was a bit short, so put his lot on a long odds on chance, who did exactly the same thing.

Gutted for the horse's connections, and commiserate with anyone who backed her - the hardest of hard luck stories.

Jack of troubled brother infamy, I concur, maybe not so much with your nicely worded comparison, but certainly with your sentiments. The necklace can be quite easily replaced by a simple rose, presented admittedly by a pauper, but life itself at this moment in time, bar the unlikely possibilities of cybernetics and the faint hopes of the live for ever movement, is final.

Mel, I hope you are well
but I know you are not
  and it is on this
  that I now dwell.
