Having watched a good chunk of US racing this past 6 weeks or so I am left agog each evening by the shocking rides given to so many horses.
For a country which is supposed to pride itself on jockeys 'having a clock in their head' and understanding the effect of pace in a race it simply amazes me how time after time I see horses get their arses ridden off them from the gate and patently fail to stay the trip out, or (more often) 2 or sometimes 3 riders get hooked up in a relentless headlong battle for the lead, flat out, to then all succumb to several closers in the home straight.
Why doesn't the jockey think to himself, 'this pace is too quick. I'll let the other fool gas themselves out'?
I accept some horses are best ridden from the front, but it happens time after time.
The second which infuriates me even more is jockeys not riding out for a place. Either dropping their hands when they cant win, or not trying to gain 3rd spot when they obviously could have done with a minimum of pushing to the line.
Some of these cases are so blatant it beggars belief. For each way punters to be brazingly shafted like this is unbelievable. Never any Stewards enquiry, and the poodle commentators on SKY Racing routinely ignore it also.
Chapman occasionally calls something out, buts thats it.
Midweek there was a horse called Deja Sous, it was 2nd Fav behind a short priced Fav. I took a look at the race, and watched the race videos. Deja Sous had only ran once. If you saw the video, how in the first place it wasnt done for being a blatant non trier is the first question - ridden out the back, virtually tailed off, with the jockey looking like it was a morning work out. Beaten out of sight 25 lengths+
It wins this race easing up by 6 lengths in a hack canter.
They may race for more money over there, but it aint good.
I have never seen so many bad rides in my life. The whole thing is boring and not worth looking at. Roll on Catterick, Redcar and all the other tracks.

I've watched every Tampa and Rogers Down race the past 4 weeks, 9/10 races below 1m are won from the front or just off it, no one in the rear ever gets into it even favourites if they start off slowly or have a bad draw. The pace is electric and is mostly impossible for rear horses to catch up.

Bad rides in every country, and I watch a lot of races from US & Australia, which go unchecked. UK is the only country where jocks are pulled in for not trying. Suits me fine, as rank outsiders stay out the back of the telly, and I collect. Just Lay 'em all .
