Much as I applaud the attempt from Timeform/Betfair to promote US racing and particularly plays that are price sensitive, have I missed something with one of tonight’s suggestions:
Timeform US Tips: Sunday May 15
Belmont Park race 2 (18:32 BST) #6 SUN DANCE MOON win lay at 4.0 or shorter
Belmont Park race 10 (22:49 BST) #8 COALTOWN LEGEND win back at 4.5 or longer
Mountaineer race 9 (03:20 BST) #5 LAGOON OF DIAMONDS win lay at 3.5 or shorter
I thought the latest market for Mountaineer for tonight was race 5 at 1.40am. If that is the case how do Betfair players lay a horse in race 9 at Mountaineer at 3.20am?

This was a fair call by Mr Q. Only became aware that BSPs did not exist after 3:00 am (2:00 am on some days) as a result of this recommendation. This situation will be avoided in future.

The concept of 'plays of the day' is a good one and should be promoted. Much as I would prefer Betfair users to have their own opinions based on the cards and data, at least it is something to promote US markets. The Timeform free ratings and comments are another step forward. Although the 5-4-3 stars doesn’t indicate the superiority between runners, it least it does give a primitive pyramid at the top end. It also doesn’t indicate if the top rated horse achieved that figure last time out, last year, when the beneficiary of pace, when competing in a much lower class, over a different trip or surface or even with a different trainer. The horse comments are helpful although can be a tad misleading as they don’t put the race in the particular context. A horse that ‘races midfield’ going 6 furlongs may be on the lead going an extended mile, particularly in a paceless race. A bit more context such as class, distance, barn form, barn changes etc would be great. I hope it comes soon. |
